Successful venture: RIOT’s League of Legend

Copycat: Moonton’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Back in 2017, Riot Games filed a lawsuit in California against Moonton for copyright infringement due to
the similarities of the heroes in Mobile Legends with the heroes in League of Legends. But the case was
dismissed citing a reason that another court could conveniently hear the case--and that court is in China.
Tencent, the parent company of Riot Games, was reportedly filed a lawsuit in China on-behalf of Riot
Games. They eventually won the case and was awarded a $2.9M. In terms of gameplay, Mobile Legends
is simpler in terms of roles, playstyles, skills and map.  Simplicity is beauty and this makes even the
newest player coming in to Mobile Legends right now will figure things out easily. That makes casual
gamers more likely to stick around and play the game for a long while. With the simplicity of Mobile
Legends’ gameplay come lower hardware requirements. As Mobile Legends has been around since
2016, giving it the advantage of being on the mobile scene first. Because of this, development of the
game itself has taken into consideration the available mobile devices for its audience. Although there
have been improvements made which depend on a certain degree of hardware advancement, the
changes have not been too harsh. This allows players with moderately advanced hardware (i.e. mobile
devices) to enjoy the game along with those with the budget to invest in higher end gadgets. Therefore,
making Mobile Legend less demanding when it comes to system and hardware requirements.

Venture: Gaming Industry

Trend/ Current Situation: Pandemic

With more people cooped up inside their houses during the pandemic, people gradually turned to
gaming to help them pass the time during the pandemic. Whether that gaming was on consoles, PCs or
mobile devices, sales were up. Gaming quickly emerged as one of the most popular activities during the
initial outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic as user engagement and spending surged within those
years that the pandemic is still prevalent. Especially younger generations Gen Z and Millennials spent
more time on gaming as the medium was a convenient way to spend time during initial stay at home
orders, lockdowns, and social distancing. Therefore, gaming such as PC games and mobile games are
successfully piggybacking this current situation.

Venture: Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality Technology

Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have exciting potential in the future of gaming,
marketing, e-commerce, education, and many other fields. Both technologies are known for their
enriched experience that brings together a virtual world and the real one with enhanced, 3-D visuals.
For example, businesses are already using augmented reality and virtual reality to provide experiences
for consumers and engage them in ways they have never done before. Other companies are finding
ways to use AR and VR to enable customers to try on or try out their merchandise. Luxury car company
Ferrari, for example, showcases their models in augmented reality, so car shoppers can “walk” around
the cars and even delve into the cars’ engines and braking systems. Other uses of these immersive
technologies is that it enable potential customers to interact with products virtually and also learn about
products in a fun and engaging way. They can even allow buyers of clothes or accessories to "try them
on" without physically doing so. Enhanced visualization turns dull shopping spaces into fun theme parks
where consumers enjoy spending time engaging with brands. In the real estate industry, prospective
buyers can tour homes before they're even built.
