Writing Unit 9

According to a report by the Instituto Cervantes, published in 2019, "currently, Spanish is

the second most used language in three of the principal social networks in the world:
Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter.

Social media has an impact on language, be it positive or negative. The negative influence
refers to grammatical and spelling errors. Many people write without being concerned with
their spelling or grammar, which leads to frequent typing errors that can affect the message.

In addition, colloquial language is highly used, which can be different from the formal
language used in more formal contexts. This may affect people's ability to adapt their dialect
to different situations and environments.

Social networks can harm Spanish, but it is essential to consider the context and purpose
of the communication, because it is not necessary to maintain formality all the time on the
Internet.

While social media can be functional to communication, it can also have a negative impact
on Spanish use and quality, so language needs to be adapted according the context.
