RESEARCH TOPIC
The Comparative Cost of Two Brands of Cellular Phones and the features offered.
4

INTRODUCTION

This project aims to determine the comparative cost of two cellular phone brands and the

features offered for the cost. Many people are crazy over different brands of cellular phones,

while others just want to have a phone to communicate and socialize with. What separates two

brands of phones from each other? Is it just the cost? Do features of the individual phone

influence the price? In this S.B.A. the researcher will look at the brands “iPhone and Samsung

Galaxy”, what features separate them, and do these features affect cost.

The objectives are:

● To investigate and state the difference between the cost of cellular phones.

● Outline the features of each phone from the significant brands.

● To identify reasons why persons may prefer a selected brand over another.
5

METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION

The method of data collection the researchers used was a questionnaire. This will provide

sufficient and honest feedback from the customers of both brands “Samsung and iPhone.” The

questionnaire was created to collect data from a sample of one hundred (100) high school

students, both male and female between the ages of thirteen to eighteen (13-18) in St Andrew,

Jamaica. It was created via Google forms and the link was sent out to each respondent and the

responses were recorded. The responses received were used to carry out the researcher’s

investigation.

To prevent the use of biased data in the analysis of this question, the response of individuals

who have had experience with both brands was used.

DISCUSSIONS OF FINDINGS

Based on the observation of data and information collected, it was observed most people prefer

Samsung over iPhones. Over fifty percent (50%) of people use Samsung because it is more

affordable than iPhones. The researcher also discovered people spend less money when

purchasing a Samsung. Out of 100 persons that responded to the questionnaire, fifty-five percent

(55%) use Samsung while forty-five percent (45%) use iPhones. Also, ninety-seven percent

(97%) of respondents find Samsung more affordable while three percent (3%) said iPhones.

Based on the responses, respondents had different opinions on their experience with both

phones. Twenty-four (24) of them said that they had an excellent experience with iPhones while

none had it with Samsung. Sixty-three (63) respondents had a good experience with Samsung

while thirty-three (33) of them were for iPhones. Eight (8) said that their experience with

iPhones was fair while twenty (20) said Samsung. None of them had a poor experience with

iPhones but three (3) said that their experience with Samsung was poor. Thirty-five (35) had no

experience with iPhones while fourteen (14) had no experience with Samsung.
14

The researchers focus on four main features that the brands offer; The Battery life, the

storage options, the quality of the Camera, and the Display of the device. Each responder of the

survey was asked to state which brand feature is better out of the four, more respondents said the

iPhone offers better camera quality and display while Samsung offers better Battery life and

storage option.

However, sixty-five (65) people say the iPhone offers a wider variety of features thus we can say

it would be more expensive.

CONCLUSION

The researchers were investigating the comparative cost between iPhones and Samsung cell

phones and their features offered. Based on the opinion of the respondents it was concluded that

the brand Samsung is more affordable than the iPhone, but at the same time, the iPhone offers a

wider variety of features. The researcher found out that features do influence the cost of each

phone. Which brand is better? After comparing the data it has been concluded that it depends on

what the buyer is looking for. If you want a phone more affordable then the Samsung brand

phone is the better option but if you want a phone that has more features than the brand iPhone is

for you.
