MISSING KID IDENTIFICATION USING FACE

DETECTION
ABSTRACT

Our project entitled as “Missing Kid Identification Using Face Detection” is a web and android
application mainly aims to locate missing children and to locate parents or guardians to hand over unidentified
children. This project helps parents and police departments to search the missing children’s easily. User can
also report unidentified children information through this app. Police departments can update the case status
of the cases using this project.

Missing Kid Identification Using Face Detection website is almost safe, private, secure, user friendly
and comfortable. Missing Kid Identification Using Face Detection is developed with the ASP.Net
languages as front end and SQL Server as back end.

1. INTRODUCTION

A countless number of people go missing every year. In India no exact figures are available for missing child.
If you add the number of missing, lost and abducted children the number of missing children is phenomenal.
With approximately 10 children disappearing every hour in the country, so we will roll out a web and android
platform for people toss directly report, track and upload information on missing child.

The web and android app is presented for the parents, guardians, law enforcement agencies, free of charge for
locating a missing children who is lost or is suspected of having been kidnapped or is a runaway. This portal
provides a platform to the public to share the details of missing/found children with public at large. Tracing
missing child will soon get a little easier with this web and android based platform for peoples to directly
report, track and upload information on missing children.

Users can report a missing children details that includes the name, sex, address, age, identification marks etc.
Users can also upload images of the people to post the information on our app. The information will be shared
with police stations. Police stations can upload the status of reported case status. Then if you see the children
anywhere, you can upload information of found children details such as name, age, contact address etc. and
then the police see if they can correlate it.

This project proposed for the missing children management in electronic manner by providing the parents to
post their missing child info in this app. The complete system is online therefore the end user felt more
convenient than physically making inquiry in the police station. After the detection of people, the police can
search for the parent’s details through this app to hand over the people.
We have provided four types of users in our application. Admin, parents who lost child or people users who
found people and police. Admin has all the rights and admin can maintain all the information of the web site.
Parents who lost people can post the missing people information with their photo and also, they can regularly
check for the status and list of found children. Users who traced missing children can update the information
with their personal details also. Police can update the regular status about missing children to inform their
parents or guardian. This project reduces the police departments and parent’s time and efforts to retrieve the
missing children. This app also facilitate to find and match the face that are already included or stored in the
database.

2. Literature Survey

Earliest methods for face recognition commonly used computer vision features such as HOG, LBP, SIFT, or
SURF [2-3]. However, features extracted using a CNN network for getting facial representations gives better
performance in face recognition than handcrafted features. In [4], missing child identification is proposed
which employees principal component analysis using Eigen vectors is used for face recognition system. Find
Face is a website that lets users search for members of the social network VK by uploading a photograph [5].
Find Face employs a facial recognition neural network algorithm developed by N-Tech Lab to match faces in
the photographs uploaded by its users against faces in photographs published on VK, with a reported accuracy
of 70 percent.
The “reunion” in Chinese, app developed by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd. helped Chinese authorities recover
hundreds of missing children [6]. The app has allowed police officers to share information and work together
with public.
 3. PROPOSED METHODOLOGY

Here we propose a methodology for missing child identification which combines facial feature extraction
based on deep learning and matching based on support vector machine. The proposed system utilizes face
recognition for missing child identification. This is to help authorities and parents in missing child
investigation. The architecture of the proposed frame work is given below

 Android virtual device : Emulator or Any Android Smartphones with API

 Operating System : Windows 7 or more , Android.

 Front End : ASP.net 2010, Android Studio.

 Back End : SQL Server 2008 OR FIREBASE.
