Vegetarianism

A vegetarian diet is an eating regimen in which people decide not to eat meat.
General reasons can be moral, religious or health. Pythagoras, who supports the
“vegetarian ideology”, was one of the pioneers in maintaining an anti-speciesism
stance. He viewed vegetarianism as a key factor in peaceful human coexistence.
Furthermore, he considered that all animals have souls and that is why he was
against animal sacrifices. For all this, it was known as the “Pythagorean diet”.
Nevertheless, the term “vegetarian” replaced it on September, 29, 1847 in
Ramsgate, England. India is the place where this diet started, but it was on
England where the first vegetarian society begun and popularized. Between the
years 1980 and 1990, when humanity realized the environmental problems,
vegetarianism was given major impetus. There are 5 types of vegetarians:
fruitarian, lacto-vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, lacto-ovo.vegetarian and
pescatarian. There is one more other denominated “flexitarian”, however, the
vegetarian society passes up these terms. In brief, vegetarianism, in addition to
being a diet with several advantages, is also a good, more ethical option.
