Poetry:

Poetry is a type of literature that conveys a thought, describes a scene or tells a story in a
concentrated, lyrical arrangement of words. 

Explanation:
Poetry is a form of expression. Writing it lets us get out our feelings and thoughts on a
subject while reading it encourages us to connect and find meaning in our experiences.
Poetry can have a positive impact on the social and emotional learning of children. It may
offer them a new way of thinking about something.
Types:
I. Subjective poetry
II. Objective poetry

I. Subjective poetry:
The subjective poetry deals with the poet's own thoughts and emotions.

Explanation:
It deals with what the poet personally thinks and feels within. The subjective poetry is highly
personal. It appeals more to our heart.Subjective narration in literature describes a story
that has a narrator with a limited, subjective perspective. As a result, the reader's
understanding is based more on the narrator's experiences and opinions than the larger
world of the story.

Forms:
The Lyric, Elegy, Sonnet and Ode are forms of subjective poetry.

Examples:
 Tintern Abbey ( William wordsworth)
 Ode to the west wind ( PB Shelley)
 Paradise lost ( John Milton)

II. Objective poetry:


The record of the poet's keen observations and experiences about the things he sees around
him.

Explanation:
Poet does not invest his own thoughts, feelings and emotions while describing the memorable
deeds, events etc, to the work of art.Objective Poetry is older than the Subjective.

Forms:
The ballad and the epic are forms of Objective Poetry.

Examples:
 Reliques of Ancient English Poetry ( Thomas Percy )
 Ballad of the Gibbet ( Francois Villon)
 Ballad of the Cool Fountain ( Edwin Honig )
