Performance Reliability Simplicity

Performance Reliability Simplicity
Optima Series

Optima Series currently consists of eight models that perfectly meet Doen WaterJets key design criteria of
superior Performance, excellent Reliability and sheer Simplicity of installation, operation and maintenance.

These waterjets all use our latest impeller technology to deliver mixed flow type, high speed performance,
within an axial build; this approach combines the key benefits of excellent high-speed efficiency with superior
cavitation margins and efficiency at lower speeds and cruise conditions.

Optimised to best suit the speed regime of the craft, the fabricated duct manufactured from hull matching
material translates into 30% weight saving over a cast intake, and warrants superior integration into the hull
as well as scope for customisation to improve performance and/or machinery interfacing.

The pump assembly in Optima Series waterjets is

made completely from stainless steel to
provide maximum service life in the most arduous
operating environment with extreme resistance to
erosion and corrosion. This includes the
Impeller, the Impeller Casing and all parts of the
Discharge Nozzle.

We offer a standard modular construction on all

Optima Series models. Key components are
treated as separate parts allowing for several
methods of disassembly and breakdown to
individual parts for ease of service and cost
effective replacement.

Thrust bearing assemblies are inboard and separated from shaft seals allowing complete removal on water
if required. Furthermore, all main pump flanges are outboard, further enhancing the superior integrity of the
product in the vessel. This also allows for the possibility of emergency work on outboard pump parts to be
done on water if absolutely necessary.

The hydraulic cylinders for reverse and steering control

are mounted completely inboard. This places the
hydraulic rods and most importantly the hydraulic seals
out of the water and away from the effects and damage
from marine growth and corrosion. The cylinder and valve
module for Optima Series is also easily and completely
serviceable without any need to slip the vessel and if
required, the water seal unit assembly can be withdrawn
and replaced from inboard.
Optima Series

Optima Series waterjets are controlled via Doen’s

own electronic systems. ECS400 is the fully
fledged, Class compliant system that integrates
waterjet steering & reverse, primary throttle control
and marine gear select in one state-of-the-art
product. It also provides for as backup, monitoring,
alarms, etc. eDOCK single joystick control panel is
an add-on option for customers that opt for
ECS400. The joystick lever is used to co-ordinate
the combined control of all waterjets – steering &
reverse and the engine speed, so as to provide the
user with a simple vectored control.

Alternatively the waterjets can be configured with ECS-lite, Doen’s low-cost electronic control which
combines the engine and throttle control by way of single double function lever. It also provides for gear
select and alarm functions.

The Optima Series waterjets are also available in Direct Thrust (DT)
and Integrated Waterjet (IWJ) variants.

With Doen’s DT waterjet products the impeller main shaft is

arranged to thrust directly to the gearbox just like a conventional
propeller arrangement. The waterjet shaft line connects directly
to the gearbox output coupling for a very compact installation
without need for intermediate shafting. Both remote mounted and
engine mounted gearbox arrangements are possible.

For fibreglass boats the IWJ variant provides the simplest

and most cost-effective method for installing waterjets into
fiberglass vessels; a re-usable plug is used in the hull mould
to laminate over and shape the intake duct surface. The IWJ
is then installed directly into the hull as moulded.

Both DT and IWJ product variants offer significant cost

savings, simpler maintenance and more compact
installation.

The design and construction of all Optima Series comply with the most stringent industry standards and
Classification Societies requirements, and they have been certified to ABS, BV, DNV-GL, Lloyds, Rina or
other marine standards upon customer request.
Key Features of Optima Series:
IMPELLER TECHNOLOGY
All models use our latest impeller technology to deliver mixed flow type,
high speed performance, within an axial build. Impeller and nozzle
combinations are custom matched to each application to ensure optimum
performance is achieved.

STAINLESS STEEL PUMP

The pump assemblies including the impeller (a one piece casting), the
housing and most importantly the pump stator is completely manufactured
from stainless steel, which is of significant benefit to durability and ongoing
wear and tear.

FULLY INBOARD HYDRUALICS

The hydraulic cylinders for reverse and steering control with all the
hydraulics are mounted completely inboard, and away from marine growth
and corrosion. Also easily accessible and completely serviceable without
any need to slip the vessel.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL SYSTEMS

Doen’s ECS400 electronic control systems come with loads of features
and options, unlimited configuration possibilities and the eDOCK, the
single joystick docking panel, all comply to standards of international
classification societies.

PRE-FABRICATED INTAKE DUCT

The prefabricated duct is manufactured in Aluminium or Steel to specifically
suit the hull material and is supplied as a complete fully machined part
ready to install. Custom designs are possible to optimize vessel
performance and to improve hull installation and machinery interfacing.

PRODUCT VARIANTS
All models can be also supplied in Direct Thrust (DT) or Integrated Waterjet
(IWJ) variants. DT waterjet offers a cheaper, simpler and compact solution
for the right applications and IWJ provides the simplest and most cost-
effective method for installing waterjet into fiberglass hulls.
