CV-98 Cylinder Shipping Assembly

Description
The CV-98 cylinder is factory filled with carbon dioxide. A
single cylinder may be used or multiple cylinders can be
manifolded together to obtain the required quantity of
agent for total flooding or local application methods. The
CV-98 cylinder can be actuated electrically, pneumatically,
and/or manually with approved valve actuation compo-
nents.
The cylinders are shipped with a maintenance record card
and protective shipping cap attached to the threaded neck
of each cylinder. This cap entirely encloses and protects
the valve while in shipment.
The 35 and 50 lb. (15.9 and 22.7 kg) cylinders are manu-
factured with a bent siphon tube which allows for either
horizontal or vertical mounting.

CV-98 CO2 VALVE

The CV-98 valve has a ten (10) year warranty. The valve
requires no internal maintenance. The valve is sealed
closed and must never be disassembled. If there is ever a
malfunction of the CV-98 valve, the complete valve must
be sent back to Ansul for warranty replacement. If the
external seal is broken, the warranty is voided.

SUBJECT: New UN USA ISO 9809-1 HPCO2 CV-98 Valve/Container Shipping Assemblies
We are pleased to announce the addition of new container/valve assemblies (Part No. 441675, 441673, 441671,
441669) to our ANSUL High Pressure CO2 product line. The containers in the assemblies are the first in our
offering that are manufactured to ISO 9809-1 specifications, and are UN Type Approved by the DOT (Department
of Transportation) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) in accordance with 49 CFR
Parts 171-180. The containers are also approved by TC (Transport Canada).
The new UN containers will be stock items. The DOT containers (Part No. 426612, 428421, 426613, 426249,
428422) will be special order containers with a minimum order quantity of 504 units.
The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary international
standards that ensures products and services are safe, reliable, and of the highest quality. Standard 9809-1
specifies the minimum requirements for the material, design, construction and workmanship, manufacturing
processes, examination, and testing at the manufacturer of this refillable, quenched and tempered seamless
steel gas container.
On September 11, 2006, PHMSA adopted standards into the Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR Part
171-180) for the design, construction, and use of UN pressure receptacles based on the standards contained in
the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods (UN Model Regulations).

This bulletin is a supplement to the ANSUL High Pressure CO2 System Design, Installation, Recharge and
Maintenance Manual (Part No. 427604-04) dated July 19, 2011. The information contained below will be added
to the manual at the next issue date.

flooding or local application methods. The container valve can be actuated electronically, pneumatically, and/or
manually with approved valve actuation components.
Note: Operational temperature range of 0 °F to 130 °F (-18 °C to 54 °C).
The containers are shipped with a maintenance record card and protective shipping cap attached to the threaded
neck of each container. This cap entirely encloses and protects the valve while in shipment.

The valve is sealed closed and must not be disassembled. If there is ever a malfunction of the CV-98 valve, the
complete valve must be returned to Tyco Fire Protection Products. Note: Use Flexible Discharge Bend (Part
No. 427082) when attaching valve to supply pipe or manifold.

Description
The CV-98 container is factory filled with carbon dioxide.
A single container may be used or multiple containers can be
manifolded together to obtain the required quantity of agent
for total flooding or local application methods. The CV-98
valve can be actuated electrically, pneumatically, and/or
manually with approved valve actuation components. All
valves are equipped with an anti-recoil feature.
Note: O
 perational temperature range of 0 °F to 130 °F
(–18 °C to 54 °C).
The containers are shipped with a maintenance record card
and protective shipping cap attached to the threaded neck of
each container. This cap entirely encloses and protects the
valve while in shipment.
The equivalent length of the valve and flexible discharge bend
is equal to 38 ft (11.6 m) of 1/2 in. Sch. 40 pipe.

We are pleased to announce the approval of two new HPCO2 container shipping assemblies. The shipping
assemblies will be produced at the Great Yarmouth, UK plant and are available for sale in the Middle East, Africa
and Asia. The new shipping assemblies are provided with Standard paint to meet the minimum UL 240 hour
salt spray requirement. The higher rated CR corrosion protection painted assemblies are only available for order
through Marinette at this time, but will be added into Great Yarmouth in the future.
