Register your team to AWS Deep Racer at Science Park Skövde 23-25 May

Hi

In May 2022 Science Park Skövde will arrange several activities and lectures on AI. Linked to this
event, we will also arrange a DeepRacer contest together with Amazon. A maximum of 10 teams can
participate in this and we would like to inform you of this educational and fun activity!

Short about DeepRacer

Amazon Web Services (AWS) DeepRacer is an autonomous racing car in the scale of 1:18 which uses
cameras to see the track as well as a model to control gas and steering to be able to run at a physical
track. The model is built on reinforcement learning which is a part of machine learning and AI. The
contest is about training this model that controls gas and steering in a virtual environment and
thereafter compete against others in terms of who runs the fastest on a physical track.

What is required to compete?

- A team of 3-5 people

- Basic understanding of coding (you will need to code a bit to improve the reward function,
using Python)
- ~2 hours to go through the course: AWS DeepRacer: Driven by Reinforcement Learning
- Optional: time to spend on experimenting and train models the day before the event
- Time to participate on the DeepRacer contest:
o Test: 2*5 minutes/team to test their models in a car at the physical track
o Optimize the model: time will depend on the team
o Contest: 5 minutes to get at least one lap passed, the team with the fastest lap wins!
Plan for the event

We will host the event 23-25th of May.

23rd or May: short introduction and access to AWS accounts.

24th of May: Time to train your model and test with a physical car at the racing track in Insikten,
Portalen. There will also be opportunities to talk with people from Solutions Architects from Amazon
who will be there.

You decide within the team how much time you want to spend on training your model. It might be
sufficient with just some hours to get a passed lap in the contest. But the time you invest will most
likely be shown in the results list ;)

25th of May: In the morning, there will be time to make test drives again. The contest starts at 15:00
and will end with a prize-giving ceremony.
