Chapter 1

The Filipinas are part of the many island which recent cosmographer consider adjacent to asia. It is
mention that the Filipinas is located between the island of malucas and japon.

Along the quest of the Spaniards with the purpose of curiosity in the spices and land of island Filipinas,
hernando magallanes or commonly known as Ferdinand Magellan find the safe and direct route towards
the island Filipinas. He conducted the expedition at the time of king Charles the fifth.

It is also mentioned that vilalobos tried to have the second expedition but sadly, padre chirino state that
the death of vilalobos is God’s plan.

The third expedition in island Filipinas was done by father cosme de torres wherein it is stated that it is
according to Gods plan that’s why instead of the island of malucus they eventually go to island Filipinas.

Also at the time of father cosme de torres expedition, that is also the date when the Island Filipinas has
been named as Filipinas and it is along with the 500 spaniard and 6 agustinan together with father
martin herrada and that time he is the first priest who conducted Christianity in the Filipinas.

Chapter 2

In this chapter, the Indians are planning to kill hernando magallanes and his troops but they are afraid of
them and all the possible way to resist them was done by Indians.

At the time of the crisis between Indians and espaniards, one Biscayan discovered the carve image of
the holy child of jesus. As they discover it, they consider the image as a reward or trophy which
eventually result to the influence of Christianity among the people there. The Biscayan also say the line,
“bear witness to God thou hast found his son”

It is also called the divata of the castillians which means the God of castillians. Also, a specific city was
found and called the santissimo nombre de Jesus wherein the carve picture of the holy child jesus was

As the Spaniards became the superior authority in the island Filipinas, the culture has drastically change.
For them, the standard of beauty is the teeth and it is considered as the beauty of God; they painted it
with black ink and add gold pieces in the middle of it to highlight the gold ink.

The island of Filipinas provides every single thing that they need and want. The soil in that the island was
fertile and rich that is why they gain a lot of benefit in that soil. They also earn money in gold mining, soil
agriculture, animal hunting, silk and cotton, and selling fruits such as orange that the flavour is
comparable in the flavour of Europe.

The island also provides domestic fowls, and infinite number of swine, mountain-bred hogs, and
buffaloes which is commonly known as carabaos. The size is not as good as European breed but they
have remarkable skill in striking using their horns; but eventually they are being hunted and killed by the
Spaniards.

The palms is considered as one of a kind tree because it yields numerous amount of wine, vinegar, and
oil that is being delivered not only in the island of Filipinas but also in japon, malucos, and nueva espana.
The wood of that specific trees is also one of the source of their income; the wood costs 4 to 6 thousand
per piece.

Not only the wood but also the sweet water that the tree provides. They are cutting it to produce drastic
amount of sweet water.

It is also mentioned that the cane especially the kind called “cauayan” is exceptional because of its size
and thickness. It is used in their everyday life; vessels and houses are usually made by this cane.

At this time, china takes place. They represent all the industry community. Tailors, blacksmiths,
silversmiths, sculptors, locksmiths, painters, mason, and weavers.
