GOOD MORNING EVERYONE !!!

WE ARE SAOLA . IT’S A GREAT HONOUR TO BE INVITED TO THE

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE HELD BY WWF TODAY

Maybe you have seen me frequently on the televion or in the news

because last year I was fortunate to be chosen as the mascot of
SEA Game 31 held in Vietnam . And today it is another opportunity
for us to speak out about our consevation status .First of all , Linh
will give you some interesting facts about us now.

To begin with , I will introduce myself a little bit . The saolas also
called spindlehorn or Asian unicorn, is one of the world's rarest large
mammals. We live in forest about 200-600 m above sea level and can
be found in Truong Son Range. We belong to the lineage of antelope,
about 1.3 - 1.5 in length; about 90cm tall, weighs nearly 100kg.
Saola's main food is usually plants, seeds, fruits. The number of
saola in nature is decreasing day by day. You can see about less
than 100 saolas (in Vu Quang National Park in Ha Tinh province),
about 50-60 in Saola Nature Reserve (Quang Nam province) .It’s a
pity to know this data . That’s all for my part next Trang will talk
about our conservation status

Let’s now turn to another point. We’re listed as Critically

Endangered (the last stop before extinction) on the IUCN Red List of
Threatened Species. The Zoological Society of London includes me in
its global Top 100 (ranked at #44) of Evolutionarily Distinct &
Globally Endangered (EDGE) species. If you wonder why we’re critically
endangered, that is because the main threats to our community are
hunting and fragmentation of range through habitat loss. Also, Snares
set in the forest for wild boar, sambar or barking deer, also trap me
and my friends.
And Nhung will continue our speech with some messages to human
To be honest, the conservation of endangered species, and restoring
balance to the world’s ecosystems, is vital for humans, too. That is
why people should preserve us.There are a variety of human activities
that contribute to species becoming threatened.First, people should
organize different activities to raise people's awareness of the
urgent needs to protect these animals. For example, they hold
international conferences, seminars and forums about the great
importance of ecology and biodiversity. At the same time, they should
appeal to governmental agencies in the world to contribute to the
programmes of protecting and preserving animals that are driven to
the verge of extinction like us. In addition, people should contribute
to the fund of preserving the earth's valuable natural resources for
future generations. Besides these, governments should enact laws to
ban ilegal hunting. Last but not least , My will summarise our main
point .

To conclude , I ‘d like to emphasise that humans are living creatures

and so we are . Therfore, we have our own rights to live in peace and
happiness .

That’s all for our presentation . Thanks for listening !!
