MIG WELDER NOTES

1. Safety glasses and a welding hood with a #10 lens must be worn while operating
the mig welder.

2. Never touch the mig wire while the welder is on. It is electrically hot and can
cause serious shock.

3. Welding cap, welding gloves, a long sleeve cotton shirt, long cotton pants and
high top leather shoes must be worn while in the welding area.

4. If someone is using the mig welder, stay out of the area and wait patiently. Assist
the operator if the operator requests your help. Do not disturb the operator
otherwise.

5. Keep all flammable material away from the work area.

6. The floor should be kept dry and clear of all obstructions.

7. Never weld on a closed container without the teacher’s permission.

8. Get help with large pieces of metal.

9. Be sure protective screens are in place before welding.

10. The exhaust system must be turned on prior to welding

11. If the mig welder overheats or is not working properly tell the teacher.

12. We use C25 gas (75% Argon, 25% Co2)

13. Set the flow meter at 25 CFH (cubic feet per hour).

14. We use .030 wire so that we can weld metal as thin as 22 gage.

15. Before using the mig welder, you must be able to read the setting chart in the
machine.

16. Trim the wire flush with the nozzle prior to welding.

17. We use an M25 gun to weld with on the MIG welder.

18. Be sure to open the gas cylinder all the way.

19. Stick out is the distance between the contact tube and the weld surface and it
should be between 3/8” and 1/2".
