PPAC signs SOI with IEA to strengthen cooperation in field of data and research in energy sector

 Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG),
Government of India, has signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with International Energy Agency (IEA),

headquartered at Paris, to strengthen cooperation in the field of data and research & enhance global

energy security, stability, and sustainability.


 This partnership will lead to an extensive exchange of knowledge.
 Shri P. Manoj Kumar, Director General, PPAC and Dr. Fateh Birol, Executive Director, IEA, signed a

Letter of Intent (SoI) on the occasion of the India Energy Week.


 This SoI is for cooperation in various areas of cooperation between PPAC and IEA, as well as in the
energy sector, as specified in the SoI.

 In addition, comprehensive datasets, reports, analysis will be made available for better analysis and

interpretation.

 Both sides intend to cooperate under the SoI on the areas of energy markets, data and statistics,

biofuels (bioethanol and biodiesel) and Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) and other emerging fuels.

 It will also provide information on global oil and gas markets and technologies relevant to the oil and
gas sectors.

 On April 1, 2002, Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell (PPAC), established under the Ministry of
Petroleum and Natural Gas.

TNDIC signed MoUs from 53 industries and organisations for a potential investment of ₹ 11,794 crore

 The Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridor (TNDIC) has managed memorandum of understanding

(MoUs) from 53 industries and organisations for a potential investment of ₹ 11,794 crore and of that

₹ 3,861 crore have already been invested in the Corridor.

 Through the TNDIC, spread over five nodes of Chennai, Coimbatore, Hosur, Salem and

Tiruchirappalli, the government expects that it would generate opportunities for direct and indirect

employment.
 The corridor was inaugurated in 2019.
 A defence corridor refers to a route or a path along which domestic productions of defence

equipment by public sector, private sector and MSMEs are lined up to enhance the operational

 The agreements are aimed at strengthening cooperation and exchang e of expertise between the
two nations in the field of auditing.

Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the three nations.

technology.

MoU with Morocco’s OCP Group for annual imports of 1.75 million tonne:

 To ensure stability in the supplies of soil nutrients four fertiliser firms – state-run National Fertilisers
Limited and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd and Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Ltd and
Paradeep Phosphates Ltd from the private sector– have signed a memorandum of understanding

(MoU) with Morocco’s OCP Group for annual imports of 1.75 million tonne (MT) of phosphorus (P)
and potassium (K) fertilisers.
 As per the MoU, one MT of diammonium phosphate (DAP), 0.7 MT of triple superphosphate (TSP)

and 0.05 MT of murate of potash (MOP) will be imported to meet the domestic requirements of the
soil nutrients varieties for next one year.
 India has been discussing with several countries s including Senegal, Jordan, Israel, Oman, Russia,

Canada and Saudi Arabia for ensuring assured supplies of non-urea fertiliser such DAP and NPK

from countries,

 The country imports about half of its requirement of DAP.

 Around 25% of urea and 15% of NPK fertilizer requirements are met through imports.

 The domestic MoP demand is met solely through imports (from Belarus, Canada and Jordan, etc).

 In October, 2022, Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd signed MoU with K Plus S Middle East
FZE DMCC, a subsidiary of Germany’s K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmBH for supply of around 0.1
MT of MOP annually till 2025 at a discounted India specific price.

 In August last year, India and Saudi Arabia had signed a pact for an annual supply of 2.5 MT of
ammonia and DAP, NPK fertilisers till 2025.

SSIR and IISc join hands to boost semiconductor R&D in the country:
 Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR) announced a new partnership with the Indian

Institute of Science (IISc) to promote research and development in the field of on-chip Electrostatic

Discharge (ESD) protection.


 The research agreement was exchanged by Balajee Sowrirajan, CVP & MD at Samsung

Semiconductor India Research, Bengaluru, and Prof Govindan Rangarajan, Director, Indian Institute
of Science (IISc), in the presence of delegates from Samsung and IISc.
 The partnership seeks to build cutting-edge ESD device solutions to protect ultra-high-speed serial

interfaces in advanced Integrated Circuits (ICs) and system-on-chip (SoC) products.


 The related research will be carried out by Prof Mayank Shrivastava’s group at the Department of
Electronic Systems Engineering (DESE), IISc.

 Solutions arising from this research will be deployed in Samsung’s advanced process nodes.
 ICs and SoCs are essential for practically any system, from small to big, that we see around us, but
they are very sensitive to ESD failures, especially those developed using advanced nanoscale

CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technologies.


 The majority of IC chip failures and field returns are attributed to ESD failures.

 This is also rare expertise and industries holding the art of designing ESD protection devices and
interface concepts lead the market.

 Thus, R&D in ESD technology for highly reliable interfaces and SoCs that operate at low power and

high speed is an integral part of the semiconductor innovation effort.


 IISc is one of the few institutes in the world leading ESD device research.
MoA&FW signed an MOU with Digital Green to build a national-level digital extension platform.

 The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India signed a Memorandum of
Understanding in New Delhi with Digital Green under a public-private partnership framework to build

a national-level digital extension platform.

SIPL has entered into a partnership with IoTechWorld Avigation for the introduction of drone spraying in
the agriculture sector:

 Syngenta India Pvt. Ltd. (SIPL) has entered into a partnership with IoTechWorld Avigation for the
introduction of drone spraying in the agriculture sector across the country.

 Under this agreement, both will work on creating employment opportunities for rural youth by

training and preparing them for using drones on farmlands.

 The companies have agreed, through a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU), to

promote the spraying of Syngenta-approved chemicals using the drone technology of


IoTechWorld in different territories of India.

 In the first phase, 200 rural youth will be trained and employed for spraying. Large-scale trials

over 400 acres were conducted and data was submitted to regulators for 20 crops.
 IoTech’s drone, Agribot, will be used across all of Syngenta’s spray services and products.
 Syngenta and IoTech will work together to encourage 200 agri-entrepreneurs and village-level

entrepreneurs developed by Syngenta Foundation India to partner in this project.

India and Fiji have signed MoU on visa exemption

 India and Fiji have signed MoU on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and official passports.
 As part of this agreement, diplomatic and official passport holders can enter, transit, and stay in each
other territories in the absence of a visa for a period not exceeding 90 days.

 The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged in the presence of Prime Minister of Fiji
Sitiveni Rabuka and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar.

 India and Fiji have inaugurated the solarization of the State House in Suva (the capital of Fiji).

Krishnagiri district at a combined investment of ₹ 7,614 crore.


 The manufacturing facilities will be set up through OEM’s subsidiaries Ola Cell Technologies Pvt Ltd

and Ola Electric Technologies Pvt Ltd.


 Tamil Nadu government said, of the total investment, Ola Cell Technologies will invest ₹ 5,114 crore
and Ola Electric Technologies ₹ 2,500 crore, respectively over 5 years.

 The new manufacturing facilities will provide direct employment for 3,111 persons.

 With this investment, Ola Electric Mobility targets to install an electric 4-wheelers plant capacity of
1,40,000 units/annum and 20 GWh capacity GigaFactory.

 The MoU was exchanged in the presence of Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin and Ola CEO
Bhavish Aggarwal.
 The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for a 4.98-acre mini Tidel Park in the Vellore district

at an estimated cost of ₹ 30 crore.


 He also inaugurated an ultra-pure liquid medical oxygen production plant of Inox Air Products at an
estimated cost of ₹ 150 crore.

Tripartite MoU signed amongst Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, NIPER Hyderabad, and FSSAI to deal
with the problem of doping in sports

 , provide information & build awareness about the risks associated with the use of nutritional
supplements, increase research opportunities in the clean sport & anti-doping domain, and provide
options for safe and dope-free nutritional supplements for sportspersons.

 This MoU is a form of mutual commitment in compliance with the mandate towards strengthening the
field of “Food for Special Dietary Use for Sportspersons”.

 This collaboration will help develop tools for the dissemination of data and information generated by
the testing laboratory at NIPER Hyderabad for the benefit of the sports ecosystem and the public in
India. In the continuous fight against doping in sports, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports,

Government of India, Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), and National Institute of
Pharmaceutical Education & Research, Hyderabad (NIPER Hyderabad) signed a tripartite
Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create nutritional supplement testing capacity in India

 The Central Water Commission (CWC), Department of Water Resources, River Development &
Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti entered into a Memorandum of Agreement for

Development of International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED) under externally funded Dam

Rehabilitation and Improvement Project Phase II and Phase III.
