Week 6

ACTIVITY 1.

Directions: Think of significant and distinct culture in the Philippines. Analyze these cultures in the
context of the

three perspectives.

As a Filipino, what is your stand in the intention of changing the name of our country? Explain

your answers in not more than five (5) sentences.

Ans: Philippines should be changed to Maharlika changing to 'Maharlika' the psychology will change
from 'we should just be servants and employees' into 'We're actually great and can achieve great things
ourselves. Maharlikans will then come together and invest in their own telecoms and power plants to
give themselves fast internet and cheap electricity.

Without a similar rebranding, the Philippines will likely stay as what it had been for the past 300 years —
poor, corrupt, and historically insignificant, instead of what it could be — a great, stable regional hub
that connects East to West and North Asia to Southeast Asia. (The natural trade winds swept Magellan
to Maharlika and not to Japan or Indonesia, and the Yamato and Musashi held their biggest fight in
Leyte, proving the importance of Maharlika’s location).

Do you agree or disagree with the present name of our country? If you are given the

chance to name our country, what name will you propose? Provide your justification in not

less than five (5) sentences.

Ans: yes because the maharlikha were not the nobility of pre-colonial times. They were the warriors and
freemen who served the nobility who were known as the maginoo or more strictly speaking, the
kadatuan — the royal families. They followed their lords during times of war, and had a share in the
spoils.

Secondly, maharlika was a class within ancient Tagalog societies. In contrast, timawa was the rank of
freemen in Visayan/Kabisayaan societies. So if Duterte wanted to change the name of the Philippines to
Maharlika,
