General Information
Note : The examples in this document are intended to be generic. The
examples may not apply to the engine one is working on.
The following examples are intended to show how SRT are used to accurately depict a
complete repair.
These examples are not intended to convey what is always deemed appropriate by
Cummins Care™ Warranty for the specific complaint, action taken or repair shown.
The appropriate SRT shown are based only on the Action Taken (technician write up
on the repair order) given in each example.
Example 1:
Correction: Looked at engine. Saw coolant residue on the exhaust side of the engine.
Started engine but saw no leak. Steam cleaned to clear the residue. Pressure tested
cooling system. Found coolant coming from weep hole on water pump. Customer
decided to install a ReCon® pump. Topped off coolant level and tested DCA level. Ran
and found no leaks.

Cause: Turbocharger

Example 3:
Correction: Coolant loss – overflow.Check engine light on, at 25% derate. Connect to
INSITE and pull codes, no active, 3 inactive. 2 coolant codes recent active. Inspect
coolant level sensor and connector for damage. Check coolant level, was full. Check
ECM calibration to address codes, but none, codes were thrown when the engine temp
was between 180 and 185. Started truck and got it up to temperature. No codes coming
active. Shut truck off and found it pushed coolant out overflow. Use EDS to troubleshoot
coolant overflow. Test radiator cap, OK. Ran until warm, and performed exhaust gas
test in radiator, was positive. Directed to replace head gasket. Remove cylinder head
and replace gasket. Ran engine until reached 190 degrees, and retest cooling system,
passed this time. Road test, recheck for leaks, ok.

Example 4:
Correction: Customer complains of fuel leak. Connect INSITE. Saved ECM Download.
Steam engine. Run engine to normal operating temperature. Found fuel leak from fuel
pump head. Remove fuel pump head. Inspect fuel pump head for damage. Replace
leaking gasket.
