The objectives of this study is to: identify the different species of crustaceans found in Hirapsan Island,
Mondragon, Northern Samar; determine the crustaceans that are abundantly found in the sites; determine
crustacean caught by different catching gears like; sibot, bentol, bobo; and describe the distribution of
crustaceans according to the following habitats: rocky substrate, sandy substrate, mangrove forest, and
seagrass beds.
The study focused mainly on identifying the crustacean species in the study sites from August to
October, 2018. A11 crustacean species gathered were identified and preserved for future use.
The most abundant crustacean was Thalamita danea having a total of (21) individuals,Thalamita
prymna (14) individuals, Eriphia sebana (8) individuals, Ocypode ceratopthalmus (7) individuals, Pilumnus
riticulatus and Atergatis floridus having (6) individuals, Thalamita crenata,Pilumnus reticulatus and Xantho
hydrophilus having (5) individuals, Actaeodes tomentosus, Zosimus aeneus, and Acteodes hirsutissimus
having (4) indivviduals, atergatis integerrimus having (3) individuals and the least abundant crustacean was
Macrobrachium rosenbergii with only (1) individual.
By Bentol there (7) crustacean caught namely; Pilumnus reticulatus, Pilumnus vespertilio, Thalamita
crenata, Thalamita danae, Thalamita prymna, Atergatis integerrimus, and Xantho hydrophilus
And (7) by Bobo namely; Ocypode ceratopthalmus, Thalamita crenata, Thalamita danae, Thalamita
prymna, Zosimus aeneus, Actaeodes hirsutissimu, Xantho hydrophilus.
In seagrass beds in Hirapsan Island there were 13 crustaceans found namely; Actaeodes
hirsutissimus, Atergatis integerrimus, Atergatis floridus, Eriphia sebana, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, Ocypode
ceratopthalmus, Pilumnus reticulatus, Thalamita crenata, Pilumnus vespertilio, Thalamita danae, Thalamita
