Have you seen a little dog anywhere about?
A raggy dog, a shaggy dog, who’s always looking out
For some fresh mischief which he thinks he really ought to do.
He’s very likely, at this minute, biting someone’s shoe.
If you see that little dog, his tail up in the air,
A whirly tail, a curly tail, a dog who doesn’t care
For any other dog, he meets, not even for himself,
Then hide your mats, and put your meat upon the topmost shelf.
If you see a little dog, barking at the cars,
A raggy dog, a shaggy dog, with eyes like twinkling stars,
Just let me know, for though he’s bad, as bad as can be;
I wouldn’t change that dog for all the treasures of the sea!

Dear Diary
Today was an exceptional day as my school gave me the Best Student Award. While all parents
were seated in the auditorium the Principal gave a very heart-warming speech congratulating all
the students who had done well as sports people. Then the prizes for the education excellence
were given. I was a little taken aback as my name was not called out. After all the prizes were
given out, the principal stood up and went to say that he wanted to now congratulate a student
who had done well both in studies and sports and called out my name. I was so happy. I almost
ran to the stage. The Principal also informed that it has been almost a decade since a student has
won this award. I received a standing ovation from all teachers and students. As the list of
subjects and sports events were being announced for which I was being honoured I felt so
grateful. I bowed down to the audience and touched the feet of my principal. He gave me a warm
hug and asked me to keep it up. I think this was one of the best days of my life. My parents were
overjoyed. Dad got a photographer to click some photos and mailed them to our relatives. My
neighbours and friends organised a party. I didn't want the day to end without penning a few
lines. So here it is a day 1 will remember for life!!!! Am going to sleep with some good dreams.
Good night and hope you enjoyed what I wrote for you.

Dear Sir,
Subject: Stray cattle nuisance
You must be aware of the recent accidents in the city on account of cattle obstructing
the roads and the vehicular traffic. This is all because the cattle owners letting loose
their cows on the roads.
It is a common sight cows squatting on the roads creating obstruction to the flow of
traffic. Recently, a scooterist was fatally injured as he was knocked down by a cow and
today he is lying in hospital with a fractured leg. There is none to take responsibility
Although he was not in the wrong still he is penalised. In another ? incident, a car
going smoothly had a mishap, a cow suddenly came in front of the vehicle just from
nowhere and was hurt a little. Soon a crowd gathered and the car owner was forced <
to pay a thousand rupees as compensation.
Isn’t it the responsibility of the municipal authorities and their subordinate staff to
remove the stray cattle and allow a continuous flow of safe traffic? The negligent cattle
owners should be brought to book and heavily penalised so that the motorists are
safe.

I request the city fathers to take up the? matter urgently. I hope this letter, through
wide! circulation of your newspaper, would open the S eyes of the concerned
authorities and compel? them to take action to let the people breathe a sigh of relief
by doing away with the nuisance.
Thanking you,
Yours truly,

30. HOW TO AVOID ACCIDENTS...

Ans. :
Every day we see and hear of accidents taking place around us. I feel very
scared of the heavy traffic and the way some people drive by over taking from the
wrong side or just driving at speed which is not right. It seems that people avoid

s
following rules which have been laid down. Traffic rules should be taught in school so

s
that from an early age children will learn to follow the rules and will not drive in a rash
manner. The traffic police also needs to be strict Minors like me should not be allowed

la
to drive till we grow up and get our licenses. If people do not have the manners to
drive properly then they need to be fined or punished so that they do not commit the

C
same mistake again. If they still don't understand then their driving licence should be

u
taken away or their vehicles should be taken away by the police. People should respect

d
traffic signals and signs as they are kept for their own safety. We should not jump the

iE
red signal. People who have to move around on foot should walk on the footpaths and
cross the roads at the zebra crossings. People should learn to drive carefully so that
they reach home safely. It is well said better late than never.

31. Write a short story in about 200 - 250 words.
[Fahad’s - a cat - meet in the park - play every day - cat fell sick - the dog would not leave - the
cat taken home - they lived together]

Ans. :
Fahad had a husky who loved to go for long walks. The park near his house
was his favourite. Fahad was surprised to see his sturdy husky become friends with a
black cat in the park. The cat was not at all afraid of Bruno, his husky. They ran around
together, did mock fighting and sat and gazed at the people and their pets move by.
Bruno was very protective of the little black cat. Time passed people watched this
strange couple with a smile. One day Bruno was not ready to leave the park without
meeting his cat friend. He searched around everywhere for her. She was not to be
seen. I commanded him that it was time to leave and he should get into the car. He

wasn't hearing a word of what I was saying. He jumped out of the window and ran
towards the pump house of the park. I followed him and there we saw the cat lying all
huddled up and feeling very sick. I had no choice but to take her home and call the vet.
The doctor diagnosed a stomach problem and the little thing was running a fever. I
made a cosy place for the cat to sleep near Bruno. I came to accept that Miss Catty
was going to be a permanent fixture and we are going to be a threesome. My pets and
me!
