Scene 1 (Split screen – child’s bedroom)


(Child sitting in bed when grandmom walks in)

Grandma: Come on beta. It’s time for bed now. It’s late and you have school
tomorrow don’t you?
Ritu: But grandma, you haven’t told me a story in such a long time! And I want
to listen to a different kind of story this time.
Arun: Something you have never said before.
Grandma: Alright I will. But tell me, how was your day at school today?
(Doorbell rings, Arun attends, Meera rushes in an excited state)
Meera: Thank you so much Grandma, you finally convinced my parents for a
sleepover. (She goes and gives a tight hug to her friend, Ritu)
Arun: Grandma, what about our storytelling session?
Grandma: Oh that will happen but first tell me about your story. What
happened at school?
Ritu: School was the same. But you know what – we played this new game
today.
Meera: Chor Police!
Ritu: And guess what – I was the cop!
Meera: It was so much fun!
(Ritu and Meera excitedly talk about their experience with the game)
Grandma: Ok, ok I get it. So on this note, how would you like to hear about
a real-life cop? And that too, a woman!
Ritu: Oh yes, yes Grandma.
Arun: That sounds so interesting. Begin fast!
Grandma: Ok, first things first, let me tell you a little bit about her childhood.
Her name is Kiran Bedi. She was born in 1947 in Amritsar….(voice fades)
Scene 2
(On the tennis court)

Voiceover of Grandma: Kiran was developing a passion for tennis, watching
her father play the game. Her father, in turn, encouraged her immensely…
SPLIT STAGE 2
(Kiran enters the stage, where her father is playing
tennis)
Young Kiran: Papa!
Father: Hi dear, how was your day?
Young Kiran: It was fine. Papa, can I try to hit a shot? You show me how to
hold the racket.
Papa: Of course, Kiran. I would be so glad to teach you.
(Actions teaching her tennis)
Kiran is seen playing Tennis with Vivaan Desai in a tournament. Vivaan loses.
Father: (In an ecstatic voice) You will go very far one day! I will be a very proud
father that day!
(Tennis setup goes)
SPLIT STAGE 1
Grandma (voiceover): Kiran went on to achieve greatness and reached the
State and National level in tennis.
(Grandma continues with all of Kiran’s achievements on the tennis court,
whilst an AV displays all her medals and wins for tennis)
Ritu: Wow grandma, she made her family and the country so proud!
Meera and Arun (together): But grandma, that means she was a professional
tennis player, right? You mentioned a story about a cop!
Grandma: Yes my dear. Have some patience! This story is about a cop! Kiran
was very inspired by the public servants who served the nation and wanted to
contribute in some way as well. She decided to become a police officer.
Ritu: Wow grandma, did she manage to achieve this?
Grandma: Yes, she sure did! Not only did she achieve this, but she was the only
woman selected out a batch of 80 men and ended up becoming the first
woman selected for the IPS.
(AV showing her interviews after being selected)
SPLIT STAGE 2
Narrator : It gives us immense pleasure to announce the first female IPS
officer, Ms Kiran Bedi.
SPLIT STAGE 1
Grandma: Kiran’s dreams were coming true, but she had to undergo rigorous
training for this. Kiran took on the challenge and trained with all the other men
and I have to say, she was just as good as them!
SPLIT STAGE 2
(Manasvi Morde - Kiran (training with 3-4 boys(Ahaan Thakoor, Vivaan Desai,
Aryan Shah) – Mardaani instrumental music) \
Old Kiran: “Empowered women who reach tough or unconventional positions
make choices not sacrifices."
Meera: Dadi, Kiran Bedi is such an inspiration to all of us.
Old Kiran: (while AV shows the images): Do you know what my greatest
achievement was? I was invited to lead an all-male contingent at the Republic
Day Parade in 1975. Twenty-two years ago when I decided to join the elite
Indian Police Service, I saw in it great potential for the “Power to Do,” the
“Power to Get Things Done,” and the “Power to Correct.” I do firmly believe
that Police in any country can be the greatest protector of Human Rights and
the Rule of Law.
SPLIT STAGE 2: Manasvi Morde seen in uniform
SPLIT STAGE 1: And that, my dear children, is the great Kiran Bedi!
(AV showing all her awards and achievements)

SCENE 3
(Full stage – living room)
Ritu: Saee
Nitu: Nishka (Ritu’s friend)
Grandma: Kaavya Shah
Young Kalam: Krish Jani
Father: Aryan Shah
Older Kalam: Vardhan
(Grandmom comes out of the wings when Ritu returns from school)
Ritu (excitedly):Grandma, Grandma, Grandma
Grandma: Such a broad smile! Something good seems to have happened in
school today!
Ritu: Yes, something very special. You know, I’m a part of the MRV Cares Club
in school right? Well, today we were taken to an NGO that helps the
underprivileged.
Nitu: We had conducted a clothes donation drive last week and today we
donated all those collected items to this NGO! Grandma, just watching those
children with a happy smile made our day!
Grandmom: So proud of you my girls!
Ritu: But Grandma, I’m curious. What happens to these children later on in
life?
Nitu: Will they get opportunities like all of us? Will they be able to fulfil their
dreams?
Grandma (smiles): Come, sit. Let me tell you a story of one such person. Avul
Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam Azad. (smiles) You must have heard of him as
APJ Kalam!
Ritu & Nitu: Yes, yes we have.
Grandma: Well he was born on 15th October 1931 in Tamil Nadu…. (voice
fades)
(Split stage 2 – boy is reading a Science textbook under the streetlights and his
father comes in)
Young Kalam: reading out science notes
Father: Come on beta, it’s so late. Let’s go home.
Young Kalam: Wait Abba, I’m just to figure out this principle works.
Father: You can do this in the morning can’t you?
Young Kalam: But Abba, morning is not possible. I have to deliver newspapers,
remember.
Father: I know I know. But I believe you will manage to figure something out.
For now, you have to come to sleep.
(Back to living room)
Ritu: This seems so interesting. Tell us more..
Grandma: Mr Abdul Kalam was an exceptionally gifted and hard-working man.
Once he graduated, he began working as a scientist at the Defense, Research
and Development Organisation.
(Narration with AV - she continues talking about his achievements right from
the Hovercraft to the Pokhran II missile launch)
Ritu: My God, grandma. He was such a great personality!
Nitu: He must have received so many awards for all his work.
Grandma: Awards? He received two of the highest civilian awards possible –
the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Bharat Ratna in 1997 for his
contribution to science and technology!
(Older Kalam comes on stage, to the sound of applause. He is awarded the
honours)
Kalam: Thank you so much for this honour.. “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams
transform into thoughts and thoughts result in actions.”
(Leading into the final dance, blackout, Kalam leaves the dance and 4-5 of his
famous quotes as an audio file)
Final dance – Shabashiyan, fir se ud chala….(with missile launch)
Voiceover of Ritu: Grandma, that is one of the most inspiring stories I have
ever heard!
(Blackout)
Scene 4
(In a house)

Narrator1: Aryan
Narrator2: Tanay
Grandma: Kaavya Shah
Ritu: Saee
Haria: Adidev
Jeetu: Ambarish

Narrator 1 – Several years later, the same Ritu unfortunately experienced a


very traumatic incident in her life. When all hope seemed lost, she took
inspiration from the very stories that she had heard from her grandma all
through her childhood.
(Grandma watering the plants in split stage 1. House help Haria answering
the phone in split stage 2)
(The phone rings)

Haria: Hello.
Ritu: Hello Haria bhaiyya. This is Ritu. Where is grandma?
Haria: Oh Ritu baby. Please hold the line. I will call Ammaji.
(Haria calls Ammaji in the garden)
Haria: Ammaji, Ammaji Ritu baby is on line. You forgot. Today is her
performance. She wishes to seek your blessings.
Grandma: oh, how could I forget? It’s my darling’s maiden performance.
Ritu: Grandma, how have you been? Listen, I hope you are coming for my
dance performance tonight. I’m not going to dance without you!
Grandma (laughs): Of course I’ll be there, Ritu. But you do know that your
brother is coming tonight so I will leave a little early, to receive him from the
airport. And Ritu, inspite of a physical disability, you have managed to shine
through and achieve so much. I could not be prouder!
Ritu: Thank you, Grandma. Ok, I will see you in Bal Gandharva at 6pm. Bye.
Grandma: Jeetu, I hope you have made all preparations for dinner tonight.
Jeetu: But Ammaji, we need some grocery for dinner preparation. Arun baba
loves payasam, avial and sambar. I have to rush to the market to buy milk and
vegetables!
Grandma: Jeetu you may ask for anything and consider it granted. Arun and
Sudha have put me on cloud nine!
Jeetu: Yes, ammaji it is certainly a day to celebrate, rejoice and be merry.
Narrator 2: It’s a special day today, for we have a dancer, who is the epitome
of inspiration! They say ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ We present
before you, a woman, whose determination, diligence and resolute is
significant in her dance performance!
(Dance performance – Dheem ta da re)
