Damcos Anti-Heeling System

General

The Damcos Anti-Heeling System is integrated in MTM system and designed for
manual and automatic control of the ship’s heel status during loading and
unloading operations. The control of system can be operated via the workstation
of Damcos MTM system. The heel continuously measured by an inclinometer
generates a response of the automatic Anti-Heeling System to right the ship.
The Anti-Heeling System is normally acting on a pair of heeling tanks (Portside&
Starboard). The nominal transfer rate and time is mainly depending on the pipe
diameter, tank height (the max. water head amplitude) and the designed pump(s).
In considerations of safety, each of the heeling tanks to be mounted with 2 alarms
for high and low level alarming and stopping the anti-heeling process.
Usually, as type approved by GL and the other major classification societies, the
Anti-Heeling control is to be a part of the ballast system wherein the ballast pumps
are normally to be used as heeling pumps whilst some ballast valves involved are
nominated heeling valves. When the Anti-Heeling System is using the pumps and
valves of the ballast system, the ballast system can not be operated whenever the
Anti-Heeling System is activated.

Anti-Heeling System Layout for SF302:

Operation on “Ballast System” interface – Ready for Anti-Heeling

Typical Mimic Display of Ballast System:

The ballast system should be ready for heeling by closing all ballast valves and
stopping the existing ballast pumps before start of the Anti-heeling system.
This function is to be done from the ballast display as above “Anti-Heel OFF”
button. When you click the button, the ballast system is ready it’s indicated by a
green square in both above display and the heeling display, otherwise, the
Anti-Heeling System cannot be started.
Operation on “Anti-Heeling System” interface

Anti-Heeling System is selected from one of the workstations, and then it can be
started and stopped from the dedicated workstation.

Anti-heeling system
• To set the degree of Inclining hysterese from 0.4 to 4.5.
• If the actual heeling degree is bigger than the setting degree, the
anti-heeling system will be activated automatically, and relevant valves of
Tank 133 & 134 will be opened.
• The anti-heeling pump was running after anti-heeling valves were started
for 10 seconds. With the display degree was been reduced, the vessel will
restore its balance.
• If the actual heeling degree is zero, the anti-heeling system will be in a
hibernate status. The heeling pump will immediately stop and valves will be
closed.
• If the vessel tilted again, the system will automatically start-up.
• When the low / high level alarms of Tank 133 & 134 were activated,
anti-heeling valves were closed. Then, other two valves will be opened.
During this period, the pump is keep running.
• If the low / high alarms of Tank 135 & 136 were also activated, the system
will be stopped automatically.

Pre-heeling system
• To set the degree of Pre-Inclining limit from 4.5 to -4.5.
• Click the button of Pre-Inclining, and the Pre-heeling system is activated.
• The anti-heeling pump was running after anti-heeling valves were started
for 10 seconds. With the display degree was been reduced, the vessel will
restore its balance.
• If the actual heeling degree is equal to the setting degree, the anti-heeling
system will be in a hibernate status. The heeling pump will immediately
stop and valves will be closed.
Normally, the following data, status, indication and setup are available from the
anti-heeling control station as shown from the above display:
- Heel to portside in red belt
- Heel to starboard in green belt
- Heel in deg. (Portside negative, starboard positive)
- Pump status for the anti-heel pump involved
- Level in the four ballast tanks dedicating to anti-heeling control
- Draft Fore,Aft., Trim.
- Alarms for service level and excessive list
- Indication of pump direction
- The special button is for choosing the anti-heeling tanks trim/heel compensation.
If it is ‘ON’, the tank volumes are automatic compensated. If it is ‘OFF’, the
system stops trim/heel compensation for the tank volumes.

Operation Modes – Manual & Auto Anti-Heeling

The Anti-Heeling System can be operated in both Manual and Automatic modes.

Anti-heel OFF

Descriptions:

- The system is powered but anti-heeling operation is unavailable yet

- System status indication available
- Pumps, valves and level switches in heeling tanks in corresponding status
- Ship’s heel is as well indicated

Anti-Heeling System Alarms

There are some alarms dedicating to the Anti-Heeling system which can mostly be
indicated in the alarm list from graphic workstation(s), or alternatively the other
alarms would as well be indicated from the mimic display of Anti-Heeling system.

Typical Display of Alarm List for Anti-Heeling Alarms:

An overview of the Anti-Heeling system Alarms:

- Heeling Tank PS High Level Displayed in Alarm List
- Heeling Tank SB High Level Displayed in Alarm List

- Heeling Tank PS Low Level

- Heeling Tank SB Low Level
- Excessive Heeling More Than e.g. 5Deg. Displayed in Alarm List
- Excessive Heeling More Than e.g. 2.5Deg. Displayed in Alarm List

- Heeling Pump Fault

- Heeling Valves Faults

- Emergency Stop Displayed

- Heeling Tank Level Sensor Fault
