CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

A. Background

The researcher begins to find study case in North America refers to a comprehensive
analysis of a particular situation, event, or system in North America, usually with the aim of
identifying a solution to a problem or improving the understanding of a particular subject.
Study cases can be found in many fields, including business, education, law, medicine, and
social sciences. They often involve a detailed examination of data, observations, and other
relevant information to understand the context of a situation and make informed
recommendations or conclusions. Creswell (2014) states that “a study case is a research
strategy for carefully investigating a subject through the collection of comprehensive
information using various data collection procedures”.

The author fascinated to discuss about immigrant situation in the United States of America
which is complex and multi-faceted, encompassing a wide range of issues and challenges
facing both documented and undocumented immigrants. In recent years, immigration has
become a highly controversial and politically charged issue, with debates centered around
border security, the status of undocumented immigrants, and the policies governing legal
immigration.

Undocumented immigration continues to be a major concern for many in the US, with an
estimated 11 million people living in the country without legal status. This has led to concerns
about border security, job displacement, and the strain on public resources. On the other hand,
there are also many immigrants who come to the US legally, either through employment-based
visas, family-sponsored visas or as refugees and asylum seekers. However, the legal
immigration system has been criticized for being slow, backlogged, and not responding to the
changing needs of the US economy and society. In recent years, there have been numerous
policy proposals and legislative efforts aimed at addressing various aspects of the immigrant
situation in the US, but no comprehensive solution has been reached so far.

1
B. Theoretical Frameworks
In this research, the main theory used is Creswell which is to explain the case study is one
of the parts of research strategy. However, the researcher only focuses on the analysis of
immigrant from the North America.

C. Scope of Problem
There are many things to explore and analyse in many aspects about the North America, but
the writer only immigrant situation in North America.

D. Benefit and Urgency of the Research

The research about the immigrant situation can provide important insights and benefits, and
it is considered to be an urgent matter that requires attention and action.

E. Roadmap of the Research

The roadmap for research about the immigrant situation should be well-structured and
systematic, and should take into account the research question, methodology, and data
collection and analysis techniques.

F. Research Purposes
The purposes of research on North American immigrants can be diverse and can contribute
to a better understanding of the motivations and experiences of immigrants, the impact of
immigration policies, and the outcomes of immigration, and inform policymaking and
decision-making.

G. Hypothesis

The hypothesis of this case is likely that the increase in immigration arrests along the U.S.-
Mexico border is driven by various factors, including an increase in migration from countries
outside of Mexico and Central America, and the failure of certain governments in these
countries. This record-breaking number of arrests has prompted reactions and responses from
the Biden administration, Republican lawmakers, and other stakeholders.

2
CHAPTER II
RESEARCH METHOD

A. Time and Location of the Research

During the 2022 fiscal year more than 2.3 million arrests which end in September 30, 2022
in U.S. authorities that have arrested over 2 million immigrants along the southern border in
the past 11 months, marking a record high. The migration wave has been driven by an increase
in people crossing from countries outside Mexico and Central America, including Venezuela,
Nicaragua, and Cuba.

B. Research Instrument

The main instrument of the present study is the researcher herself because she is active and
directly participate in data collection and analysis. The author is considered the main
instrument because she collects data by reading the news reports and observe it.

C. Design Research

The methodology of the study is the descriptive qualitative method, in the book entitled
Basics of Qualitative Research as mentioned by (Corbin & Strauss, 2015), “Qualitative
Research is a form of research or a designated coresearcher collects and interprets data, making
the researcher as much a part of the research process as the participants and the data they
provide.” this method is a study for doing some research by collecting and analyzing data, also
making the researchers getting into the process of the research and collecting the data.

D. Methods

In the study, the data is collected by active reading skill because she needs to read to the
whole passage about this study case. Thereafter, the researcher checks the data and ready to
analyze it.

3
E. Analyzing Data
To analyze the data about the record-breaking number of over 2 million immigration arrests
along the U.S.-Mexico border in 11 months, one can follow a number of steps. These may
include reviewing the relevant statistics and data sources, creating a clear research question or
hypothesis, identifying variables and determining the most appropriate data analysis method,
collecting and organizing the data, performing the analysis and interpreting the results, and
finally, presenting the findings in a clear and concise manner. Throughout this process, it is
important to maintain a critical and objective approach and to consider any potential biases or
limitations in the data.

CHAPTER III
RESULT

According to recent reports, arrests along the U.S.-Mexico border have topped 2 million a
year for the first time. This is a significant increase from previous years and highlights the
challenges faced by U.S. border authorities in managing immigration and border security. The
reasons for this increase in arrests are complex and multifaceted, and may include factors such
as changes in U.S. immigration policies, economic conditions in both the U.S. and Mexico,
and increased violence and instability in certain regions. The issue of arrests along the U.S.-
Mexico border is a complex and controversial one that requires a comprehensive and nuanced
approach to address.

CHAPTER IV
DISCUSSION

United States authorities arrested over 2 million migrants along the southern border in the
past 11 months, exceeding the 2 million threshold for the first time in history. In August,
203,598 migrants were detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, putting the authorities
on pace to exceed 2.3 million arrests by the end of the 2022 fiscal year. The majority of
migrants come from outside Mexico and Central America, with migrants from Venezuela,
Nicaragua, and Cuba accounting for more than a third of those taken into custody. The Biden

4
administration blames the governments of these countries for the migration wave and claims
to be building a "safe, orderly and humane" immigration system while blaming the Trump
administration for dismantling legal migration channels. Critics argue that the Biden
administration has fallen short in meeting its refugee admission goals and the number of
migrants who have died while crossing the border is at an all-time high. The record number of
crossings is attributed to the Biden administration's reversal of Trump's border policies by
Republican lawmakers, while the Biden administration points to repeat crossing attempts and
the Title 42 emergency public health policy for the high numbers. The administration also
defends its border record by pointing to the decline in the number of Mexican and Central
American migrants arrested in recent months.

CHAPTER V
CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Based on the discussion, the writer can conclude that Federal authorities are on pace to
make more than 2.3 million arrests during the 2022 fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30. That will
far exceed last year’s record of more than 1.7 million arrests. The United States authorities
have arrested over 2 million immigrants along the southern border in the past 11 months,
marking a record high. The migration wave has been driven by an increase in people crossing
from countries outside Mexico and Central America, including Venezuela, Nicaragua, and
Cuba. The Biden administration blames the governments of these countries for the strain on
the U.S. immigration system and the failure of the communist regimes in driving a new wave
of migration. However, critics argue that the administration has fallen short of meeting its
refugee admission goals and has not taken enough action to address the border surge crisis.

In terms of suggestions, it is not explicitly stated in the passage but finding a solution to
address the border crisis would require collaboration and efforts from both the U.S. government
and the governments of the countries contributing to the migration wave. Additionally,
addressing the root causes of migration, such as political instability and economic hardship in
these countries, may also help in reducing the number of immigrants crossing the border.
