RISK FACTORS FOR STROKE EVENTS IN BAHTERAMAS HOSPITAL,
SOUTHEAST SULAWESI PROVINCE

Stroke is a disease that can be fatal in either death or long-term disability. The
World Health Organization (WHO) stated that Indonesia is ranked 97th in the world for
the highest number of stroke sufferers with the number of deaths reaching 138,268 people
or 9.7% of the total deaths. Based on stroke data at Bahteramas Hospital, Southeast
Sulawesi Province in 2019, there were 53 cases with the number of inpatient visits as
many as 150 visits. In 2020 the number of stroke cases was 119 cases with 185 inpatient
visits and in 2021 the number of stroke cases was 164 cases with the number of inpatient
visits of 210 visits. The purpose of the study was to analyze the risk factors for stroke
events in Bahteramas Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province.
The research method uses the Case Control Study approach. The population
numbered 136 people. The Study Sample totaled 68 case samples and 68 control samples.
The sample technique in this study is Simple Random Sampling. The data was processed
using odds ratio test, chi square and logistic regression.
The results showed that hypertension was a risk factor with an OR value of
12.963, X2 count 40.581 > X2 table 3.841 (df=1), φ 0.561, diabetes mellitus OR value
4.379 X2 count 15.572 > X2 table 3.841, φ value 0.353, cholesterol OR value 7.756, X2
coint 27.182 > X2 table 3.841, φ 0.462 and diet OR value 7,086, X 2 count 24,238 > X2
table 3.841, φ 0.437 for stroke in Bahteramas Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province.
Regression tests showed that hypertension and cholesterol were the factors most at risk
for stroke than diabetes mellitus and diet.
The conclusion that hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cholesterol and diet are risk
factors for stroke events at Bahteramas Hospital, Southeast Sulawesi Province. The most
dominant factor at risk for the incidence of stroke is hypertension.
