“Can we love those who hurt us?” “It is so easy to love someone lovable, but how about those
who are not?” Those questions thrown by Fr. Maniwang were stuck in my head. I was also
starting to question if I am capable of loving those who caused me pain, sorrow, and tragedy.
If I am to tell the sincerest truth, I would say it will be too hard for me to love them. But the
Gospel and Fr. Maniwang’s sermon made me understand the concept of love. Realization hit
me that the greatest love of all is the love we give to those who have sinned against us, those
who have caused us pain, and those who have caused us the tragedy that changed our life. I
say to love those people is complicated and sometimes painful. But, it came into my mind that
we have also sinned, caused pain, sorrow, and tragedy to Jesus, and yet He loved us dearly.
He loved, forgave, and gave us countless chances. And because He loved us dearly, we
became lovable, capable, and great. Perhaps, the Gospel today wants us to learn that love is
the most powerful thing we can give, share, and receive. With this Sunday experience, I am
reminded of this gardening tool called a watering can. In a garden, you need to water your
flowers for them to grow beautifully. But you need to use a watering can for you to properly
give your plants water. And water is like love, and we are like the watering can. On the other
hand, the flowers are like our neighbors. We are the instrument that God uses to give love to
other people.
