2. Where does Rose Mary say that all of the money went when the family has
no food for dinner?

Rose Mary says that all the money is gone and claims that she has a household of kids
and a husband to take care of. According to the text, it says “"Mom, what happened to it
all?" I asked as we ate our ice-cream slices. "Gone, gone, gone!" she said. "It's all
gone." "But where?" Lori asked. "I've got a houseful of kids and a husband who soaks
up booze like a sponge," Mom said. "Making ends meet is harder than you think."
(Walls, 197). This quote from the text shows what happens to all the money that the
Mom had. She claims that it is all gone and says that she spends it on the family. This
could be possible, but it’s most likely she spends it all on herself than on the family.

4. What happened to Dinitia?

Dinitia got arrested for stabbing her mother’s boyfriend to death. According to the story,
it says :”I saw Dinitia around town once or twice after that, and we waved but never
spoke again. Later, we all learned she'd been arrested for stabbing her mother's
boyfriend to death.” (Walls, 200). This quote from the story tells what happens to Dinitia.
She got arrested for violent acts and has barely been around Jeannette as much
because of it. Dinitia probably has a reason of to why she stabbed her mother’s
boyfriend. Maybe he was abusive or not being nice to her or the mom and Dinitia had
enough of it.

7. How does Rex respond to Jeannette’s invention?

Rex responds to Jeannette’s invention as he was proud of her for making it.
According to the story, it says :”I took off the contraption and explained to Dad
that, because my front teeth stuck out so badly, I needed braces, but they cost
twelve hundred dollars, so I had to make my own. "Put them back on," Dad said.
He studied my handiwork intently, then nodded. "Those braces are a goddamn
feat of engineering genius," he said. "You take after your old man." He took my
chin and pulled my mouth open. "And I think they're by God working." (Walls,
202). This quote from the story shows how Rex is proud of Jeannette’s invention.
Jeannette made something for her front teeth because she can’t afford braces.
Her invention, in her mind, would make her teeth straight and her dad praised her
for her genius invention. Rex thinks she has the same mindset as him and he is
well fond of it.
