THE ORIGIN OF SIN

A SHORT EXPLAINATION OF HOW THINGS ARE.

INTRODUCTION

Why is life sometimes unfair? Where is God when injustice strikes believers?
Trying to explain God is next to impossible. To me it's like defending the indefensible, because
everything about Him is so “unreal” to our minds. But herein lays my dilemma: I know that He is
real! He had made Himself known to me “supernaturally” at a time in my life when I was hardly
really searching for Him.

To make matters more interesting, I have had earlier experience with the spiritual realm as I had
encountered (against my own will) people deeply involved with the occult. My struggle between
that stuff and, on the other hand, the (seemingly) ignorant and boring church congregation
where many a Sunday in my youth were (felt) wasted, had left me a messed up kid and I have
been a regular at psychiatric institutions in my day. My High school years were unpleasant and
confusing. I remember that my father and I had (at times) an extremely bad relationship. Mostly
I was terrified of him, due to his substance abuse and unpredictable violent outbursts. I knew
terror, and seeing my mother defeated due to circumstances. There were a lot of demonic
forces at work. I had nightmares in which our domestic worker, who had been living with us
since before my birth, was talking to me. I also had psychotic episodes and a few experiences
of “lost time.”
I do not have a complete memory of events from those days. I vaguely remember that one day
a man came to my school to see me. I recall that he took me aside and prayed for me. Other
people had prayed for me before. But this prayer was different – there was actual power that I
did not understand. But some of my mental problems were gone after that. I still had millions of
mental issues, but I did take note that some of my weirdest issues were gone. The rest of my
final school year was still chaotic and I did reckless impulsive stuff, in part due to a sometimes
uncontrollable irrational fear of my father. About two years later something life-changing
happened that left me dumbstruck: One day I encountered the Holy Spirit. I was completely
overwhelmed by it and at first told only a few people. I didn't really sense the same enthusiasm
from their side, but, over time I would meet more and more people who could also testify to a
real encounter with Him. Like me, there had been a change in their lives they could not readily
explain; everything was just different, with a tangible awareness and knowledge of God. (Ps.
118:27) Having been duped for much of my life, I marveled that in Him existed only Truth, and
the reality of Jesus became indisputable, and all-encompassing for me. Yet, life didn't suddenly
go smoothly. On the contrary, I was still under the power of people who walked with spirit guides
and engaged in spell casting and divination. Life became a roller coaster ride of (some) ups and
(mostly) downs. A major breakthrough came for me more than ten years later, when Dr James
and Meg van Zyl from Stanger Christian ministry prayed for me, and the Lord touched my mind
and broke from some powerful curses. By this time I had given up on God for some years,
3
although I was very aware of the existence of a spiritual reality that was super powerful. I think
this was around 1998 and after the prayers by the ministry, I often felt a soft healing presence of
the God I had known before. I still had problems, like severe paranoia and was diagnosed with
schizo-effective disorder with compulsive thoughts.

From then on I dedicated my life more fully to God. A while onward (about a decade after my
first encounter with the Lord) I received the Infilling with the Holy Spirit. It happened at an
amazing New Year’s Eve service in a charismatic ('charisma' = led by the Spirit) church. At the
beginning of the service, the worship leader was praying to God for His Presence in the meeting
and instructed the congregation (the church was packed to capacity) to remain standing and
raise our right hand to Heaven in faith to invite the Presence of the Lord. It was so amazing! In a
second I was in the Presence of the Most High. I recall that I was the only person to take my
seat, while the rest of the church were still standing in prayer, knowing that it was no longer
necessary for me to be waiting on God. It is difficult to convey the feeling because it was such a
unique experience: Peace like a River! Knowing that I know! Prov. 14:10. God enthroned on my
life! God had an appointment with me that evening. The worship was great. There's nothing like
worshiping in the Presence of the Lord. I visited that church a lot and loved the worship. I could
sometimes actually feel the Spirit lifting up my arm as I reached for God. I was also water
baptized there.

But there always seems to be something; and eventually loneliness for a wife that never
showed up, and satan coming against me through destructive persons, broke me. A poor
choice, made in desperation, also weighed on me. I fell back into my old sinful life and soon felt
too guilty to go to church! As time progressed, I despaired increasingly in my circumstances,
weird nightmares returned to torment me again; I've lost my sensitivity for the Lord's voice and
the old suicide devil crops up from time to time. The more injustice and pain I witness around
me, the more I long to leave this place. But I know what I know, and having had the precious
Spirit burn in my chest, I have some pretty decent insight in God's revealed Word. So then, this
is my attempt at explaining how the fallenness of God's Creation had come about, and why life
can sometimes be so difficult.

1. WHO IS GOD?

God is not some ethereal entity hovering about the recesses of space-time; nor an ideology
which we conceive through our desire for order, safety and fear of death. God is the One and
Sole Eternal God. He stands alone in His lofty abode (Jer. 46:25) -- existing before time began
(Self-existing), beyond all dimensional reality; even beyond the super-dimensional spiritual
realm (where the natural gets its substance from – Hebr. 11:3 ). His existence cannot be
proven or disproved, although anecdotal and subjective experiences like “destiny” and
“providence” do allude to something beyond the Natural. With Him all things originate, but He is
without origin. God is, first-of-all though, a person! He is the sole Wellspring of all life – the
Father who holds life in its interconnectedness under His Hand and near to His Heart. (Acts
17:28)

2. WAR IN HEAVEN

God wove into being, from His own Life overflowing, the Heavenly spirits called angels and
kindled in them His core attribute, namely love:

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is
not self-seeking, it is not easily angered... It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always perseveres. (1 Cor. 13:4–7.)

All the billions of the Heavenly host emanating from God are, as we relate, like stars in the
heavens: Each one unique; each occupying their assigned place or sanctuary. Then, amidst
exceedingly joyous applause from the Angelic host, God calls into being (no word of His goes
unfulfilled) one more sanctuary, called Creation: In “six days” He created the (Heavenly)
Creation and on “the seventh day” God came to His Resting Place to fellowship; because it was
complete, ie. Perfect. In this Heavenly, yet dimensional (physical) Creation, God had
endeavored to prepare for us all, an eternal place of abundant life beyond our current
understanding. (Psalm 136:6) The angels rejoiced in expectation us; each one of us most
precious. They were to be over us in a holy embrace, even as we were to be over the animals.
The Archangels had some sort of overseer/ foundational role here. The Bible refers to them as
the Morning stars of this Creation; satan (the accuser / adversary / enemy of the soul) being
one.

Creation:

“Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off
its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its
footings set, or who laid its cornerstone – while the morning stars sang together and all the
angels shouted for joy? (God speaking to Job; Job 38:4–7.)

satan, a partaker of Creation:

...'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

“You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the
garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx
and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and moorings were made of gold (a
type of the holiness of God, i.e. without any inclination to sin.); on the day you were created
they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were
on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your
ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. Through your widespread
trade you were filled with violence and you sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of
God and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery stones...
By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you... (God addressing satan in Ezek. 28:11-19.)

5
satan's rebellion:

How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down
to earth, you who once laid low the nations!
You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I
will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the outmost heights of the sacred mountain...
(God addressing satan in Isa. 14:12–13.)

What we can know from Scripture about satan's rebellion are the following:

1. He had been an angel; one of (perhaps twelve; maybe seven) Archangels with a key role
(power / authority / principality) in (over the souls of) Creation. They were the heralds of
the new dawn of Creation. I think that the Archangels had moved to and fro over
Creation to unfold our places as they went (Ps. 91:11-12), and that this was where
satan’s sin and fall had its origins.
2. He violated the sanctity / autonomy of Creation (read: life) / corrupted his place of
authority and stewardship by forsaking that righteous spirit which had served as the
mortar of all Creation.
3. He became conceited, controlling and covetous, exalting his own existence and imposing
his value system (the desire to possess / to see his image reflected in us) over all other.
He had perhaps been harboring a narcissistic fancy that Creation was somehow eternally
indebted to him for his role in its existence.
4. He perverted / initiated many angels into partaking of his practices. Whatever it was that
he had started / ? projected into the future; it spread like wildfire corrupting / calling to
witness a third of the angels (Rev. 12:4). Was it bound to happen (like something sleeping
being awakened); but did God just make all He could either-way?
5. Decay and desolation manifested in the wake of his sin. (See Point 7.) He turned our
worship away from God and tore down the standing of His authority within us. (God
inhabits the praise and worship of His people. We are creatures of worship.) However,
rebellion against Holy God – the only Source of Life, surely meant the end.
6. The cost of our unrighteousness would furthermore have been continually cast onto the
bodies and souls of our children, so the dreaded contamination that comes (radiates from
us and from all we do) from rebellion, would continue to pass us by for yet another day.
Our essentially dead spirits would not have cared, so long as the fire kept on burning.
7. I believe, as with witchcraft – and the Bible notes in 1 Sam. 15:23 that rebellion is as the
sin of witchcraft (see Ezek. 13:17-21) – when he had tricked man into his snare (the
promise of an “enlightened” future), he was able to peer inside their souls and “saw”
(sealed) their future in his image: the separation from God (death) that existed in his own
heart.. (Also see Acts 16:16-19.) And he saw the future of humanity as he consolidated
his trade with us in Eden: conformance to his image in the form of the antichrist – only
when antichrist is revealed may the rebellion be truly grasped. At this point in the
unfolding cosmic struggle, God had concealed from satan, the Gospel of Jesus Christ (Is.
49:2). When he came to understand Jesus’ Calling and His Resurrection though, he
became the vicious persecutor of His people – Rev. 12.)

6
Now, a curse destroys. It pursues the deepest life spring of its target. What satan had
expressed against God is in essence just that – a curse, manifesting in the here-and-now as sin
(slander, unfaithfulness, robbery and murder) against the Most Holy. And man (arrogantly) had
accepted (agreed to) this and so brought the curse to Creation! (Gen. 3:17–19)

3. THE FLESH-EATS-FLESH DYNAMIC

This sin-curse runs so deep and is so final and binding, that the cursed can only become “un-
cursed” through Almighty God having Himself overcome, and thus exhausted it on our behalf.

satan expelled from heaven

...Through your widespread trade you were filled with violence and you sinned. So I drove you
in disgrace from the mount of God and I expelled you, O guardian cherub, from among the fiery
stones.
Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because
of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth (this disjointed creation which is our reality); I made
a spectacle of you before kings. By your many sins and dishonest trade you have desecrated
your sanctuaries. So I made a fire come out from you, and it consumed you, and I reduced you
to ashes on the ground in the sight of all who were watching. (Ezek. 28:16–18.)

Adam and Eve were the first people and the only ones to partake of God's Creation (although in
them, all humanity starts off in Eden. Something of us is implanted there. Mark 10:6-8) Yes, that
old story is not only somehow factual — and even if narrative – it is vital to our understanding of
the rift which exists between a Holy Creator and an unholy fallen world which exists only until
the full remnant of those (satan whispers, ''rebellion” to everybody) of us who would return to
our God, have been salvaged out of her. See also Revelation 17:15.
The classic question whether Adam had a navel eludes me as well. I could argue from a
scientific viewpoint that Adam and Eve had no immune system as no disease existed in
Creation. Lions did not have fangs, snakes didn't have venom, hyenas didn't have molars
designed to crush bones and the perfect killer machine, the shark (or T. Rex for that matter)
should have been a lot different. The Bible describes clearly in Genesis 1 and Isaiah 11, a
vegan existence without any slaughter whatsoever. Slaughter, a concept unimaginable for
God, was spawned from the fallen existence – not only in a natural sense but also in a deeper
spiritual sense (Isa 9:18–21). But this flesh-eats-flesh reality is required in order that we may
eat the flesh and drink the life blood of the Son from Heaven. For this purpose Adam and Eve
came to be found in this worldly mortal form in a covenant to eat flesh and drink blood, ie. to
exist at the cost of others and to pass on the curse.

Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in
exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.
(Isa. 43:4)

Interpretation from conventional wisdom: Quote, Pink Floyd: “If you should go skating on the
thin ice of modern life; dragging behind you the silent reproach of a million tear stained eyes...”
7
4. GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD

God held satan to his sin (Is. 47:6) and came against his dark heart, through the Intercession of
Jesus Christ, who took on the mysteries of suffering and death, the ripe fruits of sin. Understand
that the Gospel of God is an act of love. God Himself did not need to escape the claws of satan;
the Creator Spirit can never be corrupted nor destroyed by the created. (John 1:5)
In fact, God may have had an inclination to not save us at all, as the fire (covenant of
wickedness) on earth burned much higher than He anticipated! This had manifested itself in the
flood of Noah. And when this becomes more than a Bible story or ancient myth to you, you will
admit that it would have been bad. Yet the intercession of the Son was already at work, and so
the ark (lifted up as it was, between heaven and earth) is symbolic of Jesus!

5. LIFE IS SACRED

“But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it ...”
(Genesis 9:4)
Also in Leviticus 19:26, 1 Sam. 14:34 and Ezek. 33:25.

In the New Testament James singles out three Levitical rules for the Gentiles as of vital
importance next to the Law of Love:
1. Abstain from sexual immorality.
2. Do not eat meat sacrificed to idols.
3. Do not eat strangled meat (with the blood still in it) or blood.

It is ok to eat meat, but it is an evil thing to eat un-bled meat! Why? The carcass belongs to the
fallen world and is little more than fuel for the fire. It is sacred only in terms of the understanding
that we may not show cruelty: There are several scriptures referring to that, e.g., “Do not cook
the meat of a kid (Deut. 14:21) or lamb (Exodus 23:19) in its mother's milk”, “A righteous man
cares for the needs of his animal ...” (Proverbs 12:10). But the blood represents the spirit of the
animal – God says, “the life of the animal is in the blood.” It may not be desecrated. The animal
spirit is immortal and like our spirit, is subject to God's judgment: Gen. 9:5 and Joshua 11:6–9
(refer Job 39:19 – 25) – note that hamstringing the horses was for sake of judgment against the
horses and not about destroying the war equipment of Hazor so they might not rearm. Note in v.
10 and 11 that Hazor was completely destroyed and every one belonging to the kingdom were
killed, as well as their animals (being bearers of the curse of antichrist (Deut.18:10-12); as the
Israelites were bearers of the Promise as symbolized by the Ark of Covenant and evidenced by
the manifest Presence in their camp.)
It is also wrong to eat the fat, and for more than health reasons! (Lev. 3:16–17) Throughout
Scripture, oil and fat represent blessing and abundance which are from God. Yes, the desire of
God's heart is to bless; even animals! But, a compromise creation leaves limited room for that.
(Job 41:4-6)

On the subject; for interest sake:
Outside are the dogs... (Rev. 22:15) is not meant in a derogatory way. God is not like that! It
uses as a reference, the stray dogs that lived outside the cities in those days (and still do
today). They form “devil packs” at night which prowl the countryside and kill flocks of sheep. It's
not always for food as they often do not eat the sheep, but mutilate and kill entire flocks
seemingly for sport. (Ps. 59:6)

6. THE HEART OF THE MATTER

I wouldn't have wasted my time writing all this if I had not believed that it was all true.
Unbelievable; epic, yes, but true.
Trust, wait and see...
