Global Communication

The term "global communication" refers to the data flow that takes place beyond

international boundaries, mainly as a result of the impacts of globalization (Grüne & Hafez,

2022, p. 1). It deals with many ways that organizations, authorities, and individuals

communicate. Technology and globalization have a significant influence on the corporate

climate today. Businesses must therefore diversify into various nations and cultures. The

requirement for expansion calls for developing extraordinary communication abilities that

coordinate staff operations across various geographic areas where a corporation operates. Global

commerce depends on efficient worldwide communication. Companies like Apple, Google,

IBM, Microsoft, and other global corporations run operations in various nations and employ

people from various cultures and linguistic groups. The synchronization of company processes

across nations depends on improving global communication. Technology development has made

it simpler and more available to communicate internationally, which has made the globe more

interlinked. The advantages and difficulties of international communication, as well as its effects

and possibilities for the future, will be covered in this paper.

Benefits of Global Communication

Globalization of Culture and Interactions

The current generation has significantly shortened distances. The universal means of

spoken communication have undergone a revolution owing to the internet. New customs, modes

of expression, and cultural spheres have now developed as a result of generational

advancements. Changes and new attitudes spread quickly over the world. Additionally,

significant assisting in getting the venue closer has been media reports. Social networking,
3

electronic content, and other technology platforms have significantly merged formerly diverse

cultures into a vast culture. People now express their emotions or deal with issues in far more

complex ways than in the past. The most significant advancements in worldwide

communications, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media platforms, have

significantly impacted corporations, technology developments, and people's daily lives.

Communication in Business Organizations

The development of global communication has become so crucial for businesses that it

appears only possible for them to continue to tell their stories by participating in the global

competitive race. As a result, companies must constantly expand their global operations. The two

main categories of communication are internal and external verbal interchange. Internal

communication is centered on the information added to linked partners or customers within the

company, such as the Chief Executive Officer’s (CEO) communication with group members.

External communication is based entirely on the information sent to the external of our

organization or outside of the commercial business environment. Many organizations today

employ instant messaging systems for internal communication.

Business organization staff can use these instant messaging systems to communicate with

extraordinary workforce members in different branches or possibly with those at different

locations across the industry. For example, most businesses in China utilize Microsoft Network

(MSN) messenger to communicate with clients and staff members about matters about shipment

orders (Wan et al., 2019). Similarly, businesses use emails and messengers to tell their

employees in fantastic locations about their new policy norms and conditions.

Improved Family Relations

4

The beginning of the 20th century witnessed the methods of communication on a

worldwide scale going through a profound upheaval. The end of the Cold War registered a

greater need for communications, technical advancements, and relatives worldwide (Thussu,

2018). One of the best wishes of the present generation for survival, according to countries, is

worldwide communication. The family relationships between the United States and China are the

most precise illustration of the value of international communication. The number of cultural and

alternative relatives drastically grew with global language contact. Global networks and

technology developments have created similar opportunities for firms and individuals. People in

any area of the world may now easily stay in contact with their relatives and coworkers. Small

and medium-sized businesses can expand their workforce more efficiently throughout the

market. They can manage their operations at a significantly lower cost than in the past.

Education

Global communication has also increased people's ability to receive an education. Many

educational institutions now provide levels and online learning programs. Individuals in every

US state can examine and obtain better grades without overspending on education, lodging, and

freight costs. Similarly, people can study the language by communicating with others online.

Since the invention of the internet, humans have had far greater access to communication and

data than before. People now have access to satellite and online radio stations, which have

improved their knowledge of current international events.

Challenges of Global Communication

Cost
5

Cost is a significant obstacle in international communication. International

communication can be expensive, especially when international phone calls or satellite

technology are used. Cost can be a barrier for people, companies, and organizations that

frequently contact people abroad. Organizations may also consider the expense of global

communication when determining whether to enter foreign markets. A company's capacity to

compete in each market may be impacted by the expense of establishing and maintaining a

communications infrastructure in another nation. Along with the direct expenses of

communication, there may also be indirect costs, such as those associated with teaching staff

members how to utilize modern communication tools, modernizing current communication

infrastructure, and supporting communication systems.

However, recent years have seen a rise in the accessibility and affordability of

international communication due to technological advancements, the expansion of high-speed

internet, and other communication technologies. It is now simpler and more economical for

people and companies to communicate thanks internationally to the widespread usage of email,

text messaging, teleconferencing, and cloud-based communication tools. Despite these

developments, cost still needs to be solved for many businesses, especially in underdeveloped

nations where access to communication and technology equipment may be constrained.

Organizations may need to develop novel solutions to this problem to cut expenses while

retaining efficient communication with their foreign partners, such as utilizing cloud-based

methods of communication or depending on satellite technology.

Cultural Differences

Global communication can face considerable obstacles due to cultural differences,

affecting how people perceive and interpret messages and resulting in misunderstandings and
6

miscommunications. Key cultural distinctions that may impact international communication

include language barriers and diverging opinions on individualism and collectivism (Alawi,

2021). Disparate languages and dialects can make communicating challenging, especially in

nations where English is not the native tongue. Effective communication and mutual

understanding may be difficult as a result.

Additionally, cultural perspectives on the person's place in society may differ, with some

societies emphasizing individualism and others placing greater emphasis on the community.

Diversity may affect how people communicate and make choices, resulting in misunderstandings

and conflicts. It is crucial for individuals and organizations to comprehend and appreciate

cultural variations and try to accommodate others' communication preferences to overcome these

obstacles and promote effective global communication. The awareness can entail becoming

familiar with many cultures and their norms, looking for cross-cultural education and training,

and being receptive to criticism and helpful comments.

Political and Legal Barriers

Global communication might face substantial obstacles due to political and legal

restrictions. Some countries filter content or employ firewalls to control the use of websites,

social networking sites, and other communication technologies, limiting or controlling

information flow. These limitations make it difficult for people and companies to communicate

appropriately with one another and to exchange information freely. Global communication may

need to be improved in some nations by regulations governing privacy and data protection. For

instance, companies may need to be allowed to transport sensitive data between nations, which

might hinder their capacity to work successfully with foreign partners.

7

Other legal restrictions besides censorship and data protection regulations may affect

international communication. Laws governing intellectual property, for instance, may place

restrictions on how ideas and information are shared internationally, including in countries such

as China. While the majority of academia and the preeminent Western propaganda have focused

on censoring, monitoring, and party rule of the ideology frameworks, China operates its form of

what could be referred to as "cyber-capitalism with Chinese features" (Thussu, 2022, p. 1). Only

China operates its versions of YouTube, Google, eBay, Twitter, Instagram, and numerous more

microsites that are primarily US-based. The Chinese authorities have been building their digital

footprints around the globe as it has progressively globalized cyber companies. Global

communication may be impacted by political unrest. Natural disasters and armed conflicts can

damage communications systems and make connecting difficult for people.

To sum up, international communication has significantly influenced the world,

connecting individuals and encouraging improved communication, understanding, and

collaboration. Global communication has specific difficulties, but the advantages far exceed the

drawbacks. Global communication will grow even more significant as technology progresses,

changing the globe in novel and fascinating ways. In a more interconnected and interdependent

society, global communication has grown in significance despite the difficulties mentioned.

Effective cross-cultural communication necessitates work, awareness of different cultures, and

the difficulties that may arise.
