a standard score of 85, which is in the average range. In the area of Calculation, Siera scored a

105 standard score, which is also in the average range. On Math Fluency, Siera scored a standard

“Welcome Mrs. Camacho. I am Mandy Blair, the special education teacher here at

Morenci. It is a pleasure to meet you (have other professionals introduce themselves to Mrs.

Camacho). Throughout the meeting, please feel free to ask any questions that may arise or any

comments that you have. Thank you for meeting with us today to discuss Siera. She is such a joy

to be around. When I pulled her out of class, she was very excited and willing to participate in

the assessments. While taking the assessment, she was very smiley and talkative. In the

evaluation process, I was in charge of assessing Siera academically. To do this I used the

Woodcock-Johnson III Test of Achievement, also known as the WJR-III. This assessment

assessed Siera in three main academic areas, which are math, reading, and writing. The WJR-III

uses a standard score, which is the score that we use to qualify students for special education

services. When we are discussing these scores, the average range of achievement falls between

85 and 115. 85 is the low end of the average while 115 is the high end of average. Any score
below an 85 is below average. Any score above 115 is considered above average. (Pause for

In the area of math on the WJR-III, Siera scored an overall standard score of 92. Using

this overall score for math, Siera is performing at an age equivalency of 9 years old, 7 months in

the area of math. Under the main category of math, there are seven subtests that Siera was

assessed. The first was the Math Calculation Skills subtest, on this subtest Siera scored a

standard score of 105, which is in the average range. This subtest focused on the completion of

math problems. On the Math Reasoning subtest, Siera also scored in the low average range, with

a standard score of  85. The Math Reasoning subtest assessed Siera’s ability to solve math

problems using the concepts of math.  The Calculation subtest, which tested for Siera’s ability to

complete math problems correctly as they increase in difficulty. On this subtest, Siera scored a

standard score of 105, which is in the average range. The next subtest was the Math Fluency

subtest. On this subtest, Siera scored a 103 standard score, which is in the average range. Math

Fluency assessed the number of math problems that Siera could correctly complete in three

minutes. On the Applied Problems subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 81, which is slightly

below the average range. This subtest tested Siera’s ability to analyze and solve math problems. 

On the Quantitative Concepts subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 92, which falls in the

average range. In this subtest, Siera was assessed on her understanding and application of

mathematic concepts and understanding of number series. Overall, Siera scored in the average

range on five out of the six subtests in math. One of the six subtests, Siera scored below average.

In the area of math, Siera is currently performing in the average range.”

score of 67, which is below the average range. On the Reading Comprehension subtest, Siera

scored a standard score of 87, which is in the average range. In the area of Letter-Word

Identification, Siera scored a 45 standard score, which is well below the average range. On the

Passage Comprehension subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 61, which is also below the

average range. On the Reading Fluency subtest, Siera scored a 123 standard score, which is in
the above-average range. In the area of Word Attack, Siera scored a standard score of 94, which

For the Broad Reading or overall reading score, Siera scored a standard score of 73,

which is quite below the average range. A standard score of 73, means that Siera is performing at

approximately a 7-year-old, 8-month age-equivalency in the area of reading. The Broad Reading

assessed Siera’s overall reading capabilities. On the Basic Reading Skills subtest, Siera had a

standard score of 67, which is well below the average range. This subtest assessed Siera’s basic

reading skills. The Reading Comprehension subtest assessed Siera’s understanding of written

texts and the ability to provide synonyms and antonyms. On this subtest, Siera scored a standard

score of 87. A score of 87 is in the lower end of average, but still in the average range. On the

Letter-Word Identification subtest, Siera scored below the average range, with a standard score

of 45. The Letter-Word Identification subtest assessed Siera’s word identification skills. The

Passage Comprehension subtest assessed Siera’s understanding of the written text. On this
subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 61, which is well below the average range. On the

Reading Fluency subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 123, which is above the average range.

The Reading Fluency subtest, Siera was assessed on her ability to correctly determine if a

sentence correct by circling yes or no, in a short period of time. The Word Attack assessed Siera

on her ability to decode words and sound out words. On this subtest, Siera scored a 94 standard

score, which is in the average range. On the Reading Vocabulary, Siera scored a standard score

of 135 which is above average. This subtest assessed Siera’s ability to provide synonyms and

antonyms to the words provided. The Sound Awareness assessed Siera’s ability to understand

and identify the sounds in words. On this subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 104, which is

in the average range. Overall, Siera scored above the average range on two out of the eight

subtests in reading. Siera scored in the average range on three out of the eight subtests in reading.

On three out of the eight subtests in reading, Siera scored below average. In the area of reading,

Siera is performing in the below-average range, with a standard score of 73.”

Language assessed Siera on spelling and editing. The Written Expression subtest assessed Siera

on her ability to create sentences quickly and her ability to write sentences when prompted. On

this subtest, Siera scored a standard score of 106, which is in the average range. On the Spelling

measured Siera’s ability to correctly spell words given verbally. The Writing Fluency subtest
