With the theme “Our People, Our Future Together “ , the 23 rd ASEAN
Summit will discuss ways to consolidate these gains to meet the 2015
target of having an economically integrated, politically cohesive and
socially responsible ASEAN Community and to ensure ASEAN’s place in
the global community of nations by 2015 and beyond. The 23 rd ASEAN
Summit will also see the turn-over of ASEAN Chairmanship to Myanmar
who will assume leadership for the first time on January 1, 2014. By
2015 and beyond, it is our aim to ensure not only the continuity and
sustainability of the existing momentum, but also to set the foundation
for such concerted progress in a more challenging environment, with
enhance external interest and engagement in the region, and in much
larger East Asian and Asia Pacific contexts. The ASEAN Leaders will meet
there counter parts and leaders of ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners to discuss
wide-ranging cooperation in the political-security, economic and socio-
cultural spheres, which are undertaken through ASEAN-Led
mechanisms.

The 1st plenary session of the 3rd APEC summit opened in


manila. The Philippines on Thursday . President Benigno Aquino
emphasized on the theme “ Inclusive growth through regional
economic integration” and APEC commitment to sustainable
development.

APEC leaders were committed to achieving the Begor Goals in


2020 towards the establishment of the Free Trade Agreement of the
Asia- Pacific (FTAAP) and developing the region as a driving force of
regional and global connectivity. Speaking in the plenary session,
President Truong Tan Sang said Vietnam is commited to working hand
in hand with other member of the APEC form in enhancing regional
economic integration toward the prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
He called on APEC member economies to continually foster regional
economic integration towards sustainable development goals and focus
closer cooperation or reducing poverty, development gap and disaster
risk, ensuring food; and developing sustainable agricultural and green
tourism.

The APEC economies also need to bolster economic and technical


cooperation and support for improve capability of developing members,
particularly in new-generation economy and trade. President Truong
Tan Sang “APEC members and enterprises should become more involved
in sub- regional ang regional integration scheme, notable the ASEAN and
MEKONG. APEC members prioritize structural reform towards open
market, competitive and transparency, promoting social inclusion in the
market for sustainable welfare system Vietnam agrees on the new APEC
agenda on structural reform.
During the closing session, APEC members approve two declaration
on inclusive economic growth, multilateral trade support and APEC
strategy on quality growth. The 24th Summit will take place in peru next
year.
