PRELIM ACTIVITY 1

Name: Johanna Marie F. Tesurero Date: 09/01/22

Instructor: Sir Ivan Salac Abalos Section: Block B

DIRECTIONS: Base on your own understanding on the video presented by your instructor
earlier, explain the doctrine of last clear chance and doctrine of defensive driving. Answers from
Google/internet are STRICTLY NOT tolerated.

1. DOCTRINE OF LAST CLEAR CHANCE (10 PTS)

The last clear chance doctrine is all about putting your safety before your legal rights as a
driver. Like in the video, you must prioritize your safety if there is an accident. Even if
you are in the right lane, this does not guarantee that you are doing things the right way.
Even if you are in the right lane, you must avoid any cars that are in the wrong lane if you
came across them. When you are driving, your safety should come first in order to
prevent accidents, and you should always drive conservatively.

2. DOCTRINE OF DEFENSIVE DRIVING (10 PTS)

The defensive driving doctrine focuses on safe driving techniques for both winter and
summer driving as well as for driving on rough or high-speed roads. When a sign reads
80 in the winter, you must divide it in half, which implies your kph must be 40.
Additionally, if it is winter and you are driving on a highway, you must double the
distance between your car and the one in front of you. However, do not increase the
distance excessively. Additionally, gaze at at least 4-5 automobiles ahead of you rather
than just one so that you can keep a wise eye on your surroundings. Always be humble
and avoid thinking too highly of yourself or other drivers.
