Film review

Freedom Writers

American drama "Freedom Writers" was released in 2007 and features Hilary Swank,
Scott Glenn, Imelda Staunton, Patrick Dempsey, and Mario. It was written and directed by
Richard LaGravenese.
It is based on the 1999 book "The Freedom Writers Diary" by teacher Erin Gruwell and students
at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California, who assembled the book
out of actual diary entries about their life that they wrote in their English class. The film also
draws inspiration from the DC initiative known as "City at Peace". The phrase "Freedom
Riders," which refers to the diverse civil rights activists who challenged the 1961 U.S. Supreme
Court ruling requiring the desegregation of interstate buses, is a play on the title of the film and
book.
„Freedom Writers“ takes place in Los Angeles, California, in 1992. At Woodrow Wilson
High School, a lower-level academic course is assigned to Erin Gruwell, a novice teacher. She
realized that her job wouldn't be easy at all as soon as she entered her classroom. Then, she met
her seemingly rude students who divided themselves into groups based on race and gangs. They
seemed to hate the others and blame them for their difficult lives. Even though she tried to
connect with her students in multiple ways, nothing seemed to work. After many failed attempts
to connect with them, some of them started to speak out about their issues and difficult lives, and
Ms. Gruwell realized that she needed to change her approach. After that, she engaged the
students in many activities, including giving them books and notebooks, taking them on a trip to
the Holocaust museum, and even inviting Miep Gies to their classroom. She gave them books
that they could relate to and made them write diary entries every day for a year. Their diary
entries were later made into a book. As time passed, students started to share their personal
experiences and they started to form a connection between themselves and Ms. Gruwell. They
realized that she wasn't their enemy, and they started to trust her more and more. She taught them
many things about life. She showed them that they weren't alone and that their lives and futures
mattered. They learned that they weren't that different from one another and that they had many
things in common. She did so much for her students and she cared for them so much that she
even worked two more jobs just so she could help them out. Even when her husband left her, she
still did everything in her power to take good care of them. By the end, Ms. Gruwell made such
an enormous impact on the life of her students, that all of them formed a bond with her and each
other. Their lives changed for the better and their personal growth made them see the world
differently.
I enjoyed watching this movie. I think that the way the movie portrays society and the
differences in it is magnificent. I think the movie itself makes us view many things from a
different perspective. It made me think about how I treat myself and others and it made me feel
grateful for everything I have in life. Throughout high school I met all different kinds of people,
but after watching the movie, I started to realize that those people weren't that different at all. All
of us have some problems that we have to face every day, and they reflect on our behavior and
that is normal. The movie also made me think about how every individual human being is
important and how even the smallest things they do can make an impact on someone. Aside from
one of the greatest messages and plots in movie history, I think that the acting was amazing too.
You can see how much the roles were important to the actors. It is visible that they were very
passionate about their roles and how they made every character realistic to the point where you
couldn't tell whether they were acting or if they really became the character they were portraying.
I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone that hasn't watched it. I believe that
the message it sends is extremely important. If more people realized the importance of every
individual, the world would become a better place. I believe that the movie explained this very
thoroughly and that is why I think everyone should watch it at least once in their lifetime.
