Talking about the future

Here are some structures we use to talk about the future.


will
 is used when we express beliefs about the future;
It will be a nice day tomorrow.
 to make offers and promises;
We'll send you an email.
 quick decisions made while speaking.
It's so hot! I will open the window!
going to
 to talk about plans or intentions;
They are going to move to Manchester.
 to make predictions based on evidence we can see;
Be careful! You are going to fall.
Present Simple
 is used for something scheduled;
The train arrives at 6.30 in the morning.
 with future time clauses (as soons as, when, until)
I’ll tell her about it as soon as I see her.
Present progressive
 is used for plans or arrangements.
They are coming to see us tomorrow.
We are flying to New York on Friday. We bought the
tickets.
