A CRITIQUE OF THE MOVIE “THE GREATEST SHOWMAN”

DIRECTED BY MICHAEL GRACEY

This critique paper asserts that the musical drama film “The Greatest Showman” by Michael
Gracey promotes inclusion and the idea that no dream is impossible even though you are poor,
and being treated disgustingly.

According to Dream Glossary (2019), dreaming of being poor represents new opportunities,
things will begin to improve after a difficult financial situation. That will mean a lot to you, and
your self-esteem will rise as a result. People who know you recognize your strengths and will
gladly collaborate with you. You will only request that they give you a chance to earn their trust
and earn money honestly. You'll get back up and do everything you can to stay out of trouble for
good. Mani, et al. (2013), demonstrated how obstacles to long-term decision-making are imposed
by poverty itself. The daily worries about money and instability seem to take up so much mental
energy that poor people seem to have less cognitive energy for other tasks.

Wealth is not only distributed unequally in most societies based on membership in a social
class, but also on category ascriptions (e.g., gender, race, ethnicity). In the United States of
America, Wealth distribution studies have revealed that in 2000, the richest 1% of the population
controlled 21% of the national economy. Wealth, a trend that continues to this day (Kopczuk &
Saez, 2004).

As a student and a dreamer, I truly believe that chasing your dreams even if you are poor or
lack of financial support is difficult, but it is possible to achieve it if you are persistent in your
dreams, and it needs patience because chasing your dreams will take time. In the movie “The
Greatest Showman”, I learn that no dream is impossible just like the main character despite of
his poverty, he continues to dream until his dreams are fulfilled.
According to Colon-Johnson (2022), everyone has the ability to dream, but not everyone is
willing to follow through on their dreams. They believe that their current circumstances
and surroundings are preventing them from achieving their life goals.

In conclusion, the film inspires people to pursue their dreams despite any obstacles they may
encounter. Additionally, exhorts society's misunderstood people to remain true to themselves in
the face of oppression.
