Timothy William Burton, an American direction known for his original and quirky style was born on

August 25th 1958 in California, USA. Growing up, he had always been interested in drawing and
filmmaking, for which he’s always had an innate talent for. His childhood was a difficult one, with
distant, unsupportive parents and the feeling of not fitting in with his peers. These challenges he
faced have had a major influence on his work, which explores themes of isolation, outsider status,
the power of imagination, childhood and memory. The fact that he was a solitary child also helped
fuel his creativity.

He attended the California Institute of the Arts and kater worked as an animator at Disney
Productions. After directing a series of short films such as Vincent (1982) he directed his first feature
film, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985) which was a box office success.

As time passed, he directed an enormous amount of very iconic movies, through which he stablished
himself as an uncoventional filmmaker due to their distinct style. Examples of these would be
Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Sleepy Hollow
(1996), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Corpse Bride (2005), Dark Shadows (2012), Mrs.
Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and Alice in Wonderland (2010). Throughout his
career, he has also collaborated multiple times with actors such as Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham
Carter and Michael Keaton, who have become synonymous with his style.

Currently, Tim Burton is still in the filmaking industry, and will continue to direct and put out creative
pieces for the general public to enjoy. His characteristic style and elements haven’t varied for most
of his career, and even the projects and art he’s involved in in the present still maange to portray the
same iconic visual style gothic horror and surrealist characteristics and whimsical dark humour.
