i COMPUTERIZED FUEL SYSTEMS Computerized Fuel Management Systems | ° GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION systems, herein referred to as CFS, fue! system monitoring and 'y and displ ay technology CFS—1000A/1001A - sincte encine The CFS systens consist of @ pane! mounted Instrument and fuel flow transducers which are designed for Installation in the aircraft fuel liness soe, AIRCRAFT TYPE TRANSDUCERS. CFS-1000N/1001A Slagle Engine one. CFS-2000K/20018 Twin Engine Two ‘These systems are designed for use In al! single and twin engine aircraft having no more than 60 GAL/HR cont invous consumption or 78 GAL/HA Intermittent consumption (take off power). 1 PANEL MOUNTED INSTRUMENT The panel mounted instrunont contains al! system electronics, operating ond programing controls, and the digital reodout displ ay- The digital readout ut!!1z0s Incandescent, sever-segnent displays and the function or mode legends incorporate amps: All digital readouts and legend displays are ful ly sunlight readable end feature outomatic dinning for night ond low light level flight conditions electronics are completly packaged In the ircult boards. y, solld state ‘The system computers are designed to precisely count the number of pulses fron the fuol flow trensducer(s) and convert ‘the count to gal ions A crystal controled clock reference Is aS he 2 used to compute the rate of fuel flow and the "TIMER" vunctions+ The computer also routinely calculates all other displ ayed functions- the basic program Is permanently “burned-in* to the While varteble data and Intermediate computation values are stored by tho computer In a separate wenory bank. The aircraft's total useble fuel 1s progranned into this separate monory circuit by the computer In response to the instatier's original Instructions. microprocessor chip, The pane! mounted Instrument and the flow transducer(s) are digital dev therefore, there Is no need for adjustment or calibration. The instal ler progranmed "FILLUP" number, or In the computer manory even during Electrical poxer for this function is provided by three small batteries mounted In the rear of the Instrument cose. A low battery warning Indicator 1s located on the front ano! and wil! appear on the CFS-10001/2000A as 9 minus sign In ‘the upper display and on the CFS-10011/2001A, a low battery legend viI1 IIluntnate when the batter les becare weak or need to be repleced. The batteries il! typically last between | to 11/2 yoars and annvel repl acenent 1s recommended. FUEL FLOW TRANSDUCER The flow transducer(s) are mounted directly usually In the engine comparimor ‘ow of hydro-carbon fuel such as gasoline or kerosene. The transducer(s) are rated for a continuous operation to 60 gel lons per hour and for intermittent flows in excess of 60 gallons per how. In eddition, the trensducer(s) ere precisely eccurete dawn to 0-6 gol lons per hour+ In the fuel tine, The tronsducer¢s) The trensdicer(s) supply the CFS computer with @ pulse signal fron 9 self contained optorelectronic pickup: A neutral ly buoyant rotor spins with the liquid between V-Jewe! bearings: The rotor movement Is sensed when notches In the rotor Interrupt an Infre-red light bean between @ Tight aaltting Giode and 2 photo-transistor 2.0 2, Tho transducer(s) are designed totally fall safe and complete blockage cannot Interrupt fuel flow. The transducert fe expectancy Is 1,000 hours OPERATING PROCEDURES The system operating procedures may be divided Into tv segeents or condItions, Prefl ight and Infl ight. The Preflight, or progres condition, 1s sutonoticel ly cal ted up by the computer when the aircraft's master switch Is. ly turnod on. It Is during the Prefl [ght condition that the pilot updates or prograns the computer to the current fuel syston status. jon satisfied with current system status, the pilot verifies the accuracy of the data belng entored Into the Is action updates or Jy sultches the system to The words Prefl ight and Inflight condition do not appear in legend form on the face of the Instrument. Hoover, the legends of the Prefl ight condition appear on the right of the Instrument and are a red color as a siotle reminder of the Preflight or progras condition. The Inflight condition legends are located fon the left side of the Instrument and are amber In color. FUNCTIONAL CONTROLS The CFS systens are controlied through al! nodes of operation by the use of three push buttons. Two are for the primory nodes, and one is for the test mode. The principal cperating button Is In the center of the instrunent displ ay ond Ts labeled "FUNCT" for function. The mode of operation or function Is stepped autonatical ly through a sequence by pressing the function button, In either the Preflight or the Inflight condition- ‘The push button located In the lower left portion of the display Instrument is not labeled by silk screen as are the "FUNGT" and "TEST" push buttons+ However, this push button Is. accompanied by @ Lighted legend system that eutometical ly Indicates the correct mode of operation end Is controlled by the 3 LNPORTANT NOTE: * push button. fang "RESET". ‘The three modes of operation are, "ENTER", "ENTER" -- Push to enter data Into canputers "SET" =~ Set fuel anounts less than total ussbles *RESET" -- Reset button Is used to zero or reset gallons used, pounds used or timer, a! lowing moasuronent of fuel and time for specific trips, holding pattern legs, or approaches: The fest push button Is located on the lover right of the Instrunent i rest button Is depressed, al! legends and minste for approximately three seconds, checking all legend lamps, the digital displ ays, and approximately 80% of the microconputer- When the test button is depressed, luninate as etghts except ste as zero (8860). The microprocessor Is progranned to eutonetical ly turn off the TEST Circult after three (3) seconds to assure no unnecessary heat build up. The Intensity of legends are automatic: Insure rel lability in The pustrbuttor tal displays and the to ease Hahted workload In all conditions of cockpit and alr turbulence. The "Low Fuel" warning legend, located In the center of the instrument display, Is designed to cone on vhen, at current power setting, the time remaining to fly Is less than one hours When the time drops below 30 minutes, the legend blinks to further notity the pllot of @ Low Fuel Status PREFLIGHT OPERATION It Is absolutely essential program the computer to equsl the atount of usable fuel in th Bireratt's tenks before each fl Ight.
