CHAPTER V

SOCIAL ISSUES AFFECTING THE BUSINESS

IDENTIFICATION

1. In 2018, UN Secretary General António Guterres described violence against women and
girls as a “global pandemic” and “a mark of shame on all our societies.”
2. domestic violence, is the most widespread women’s violence
3. sexual harassment claims frequently mark companies’ brands and reputations (and bottom
lines).
4. sexual harassment claims have a greater effect on a company’s reputation than other forms
of misconduct like fraud.
5. As per CSC Resolution No. 01-0940, 2 the administrative offense of sexual harassment is
an act, or a series of acts, involving any unwelcome sexual advance, request or demand for
a sexual favor, or other verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, committed by a
government employee or official in a work-related, training or education related
environment of the person complained of.
6. Men who were brought up with macho beliefs like "real men pinch bottoms", "girls
were made to hug and kiss", "the more, the merrier", easily carry these social values
into the workplace, and treat their female colleagues accordingly. Such men often even
think that women take their harassment as a compliment.
7. SOCIALIZATION The way in which men and women were brought up to see themselves
and others strongly influences their behavior.
8. POWER GAMES Social and political changes in recent years have changed power
relationships.
9. Some men even regard it as a "fringe benefit" to which their position, their power and
their sex entitle them.
10. moral laxity, when extramarital affairs and "one-night stands" are broadly accepted,
when some people equate monogamy with monotony, it is relatively easy for people to
indulge in office flirtations, whether one-sided or mutual.
11. The credibility of the victim is often called into question, as it is usually her word against
that of the harasser/s.
12. "gang harassment" that occurs when a woman enters a plant or walks past a group of
workers at lunch; after a few drinks at an office party; or when a group of colleagues attend
a conference. Alone, those men would probably be “harmless”, or less bold.
13. Harassment costs companies money by reducing productivity, morale and motivation.
14. Companies can incur legal costs if the problem is ignored.
15. Management must develop, with consultants and in-company specialists, and with relevant
staff organizations and unions, a clear definition of, and policy on sexual harassment.
16. counsellors can be appointed and trained to provide support and to give advice to staff who
are sexually harassed, or to counsel harassers if required.

ESSAY

1. What are the negative effects of violence against women?

Among their many negative effects, domestic violence and sexual harassment interfere
with women’s full and equal participation in the workforce. They impair employees’
physical and mental health and wellbeing, leading to stress, anxiety, loss of self-esteem,
motivation, and even job loss.

It contributes to the gender pay gap and affects women's opportunities for advancement
and career progression. Women usually bear the brunt of gender-based violence, although
others are at risk, including men and members of the LGBTQ+ community. In addition to
its serious human impacts, gender-based violence negatively impacts business productivity
and reputation.

2. What are the causes of sexual violence?

These theories include military conquest, socioeconomics, anger, power, sadism, traits,
ethical standards, laws, and evolutionary pressures that lend some explanation to the
causes of sexual violence (such as rape, molestation, sexual harassment, stalking and
more).

3. What is Victim Blaming?

Victim blaming is a devaluing act that occurs when the victim of a crime or an accident is
held responsible in whole or in part for the crimes that have been committed against them.
