The age of the respondents in findings reveal that 58% of the data is collected from age group
of 19 to 22 years, then 23% data is collected from age group of 15 to 18 years, 10% data is

From the data collection it has been evident that out of 100% almost 58% people uses the
public transportation rest 42% people does not prefer using public transportation stating
multiple reasons.

2.1. If no, then why don’t you use public transportation?
Multiple reasons were stated while collecting data and interviewing the respondent’s stating
reasons for not using public transportation. Some of the reasons were common for people
who don’t use public transportation out of which 6.5% respondents stated the reason of
unavailability of routes while 17.8% responded with safety concerns.

2.2. If yes, what mode of transportation do you use?


Respondents who stated their answers as yes responded with their own choices towards their
usage of different public transportation that are available currently in the study area. Almost
36.3% respondents state that they use Feeder routes/speedo for public transport and rest
11.5% responded with orange line train as their response.

3. How often do you use public transportation?
Usage of public transportation is highlighted in this section of the analysis to know how
many times of the day people prefer using public transportation. According to the data
collection almost 27% of the respondent’s use it on daily basis and on the other hand 29.3%
never uses it. Out of 100% only 20.5% respondents use it rarely which left out almost 7.5%
of respondents who use public transportation twice in a week. Only 15.3% of respondents
uses public transportation several times in a month.

4. What is the main purpose of journeys you usually make?


Purpose of journeys respondents make on public transportation results in various reasons
such as education, work, shopping or other any. The highest percentage was for Education as
74.5%. However, work and shopping percentages were as 7.8 and 7.5 respectively.

5. Are you satisfied with the performance of public transportation in Lahore?
Respondents who travel on public transportation will be stating whether they are satisfied
with the performance of public transportation. About 56.3% respondents stated that they are
satisfied with it and rest 43.8% respondents stated their unsatisfaction with current position of
public transportation.

6. Are bus stops accessible near your destination?


Accessibility of routes is one of the important part to know the user perception of public
transportation whether they use it, they. Have knowledge about it or not. Out of 100 almost
62.5% stated that bus stops are accessible to your destination. Rest of 37.5% stated that there
is no facility of bus stop near their destination.

7. Which public transportation routes are available near your residence?
Data collection revealed which public transportations are available near the respondent’s
residence. Major public transportations like Feeder routes, orange line train, metro bus, and
LTC were considered in this analysis.

8. Do you prefer using public transportation?


This question is to analyze the preference of respondents if they use or prefer using public
transportation. According to data collection out of 100 percent only 57 percent of
respondents prefer using public transportation and rest of the respondents don’t prefer to
use public transportation at all.

8.1. If yes, why?
According to data collection this question was asked to analyze the respondent’s multiple
reasons to state the usage of public transportation. Just to get the idea of what respondents
have in mind regarding the public transportation usage. Almost 24.8% respondents respond
with economical as their reason to use public transportation. However, 13.8% stated as safe
to travel, 12.3% respond with easily accessible and the remaining agrees with
environmentally friendly reason.

8.2. If no, why not?


According to data collection this question was asked to analyze the respondent’s multiple
reasons to state why they don’t want a usage of public transportation. Just to get the idea of
what respondents have in mind regarding the public transportation usage. Almost 14.5%
respondents respond with unsafe as their reason to not use public transportation. However,
11.8% stated that public transport requires more travelling time in comparison with other
modes of traveling, 4.3% respond with unsuitable routes and the remaining agrees with
private car ownership.

9. Do you have information of majority of the routes of public transportation?
The data collection suggested that most of the people who use public transportation doesn’t
have knowledge about all the routes that are running currently. According to the survey only
18% of the respondents have knowledge about all the current routes. However, about 47%
people doesn’t have knowledge about all the running routes and only 35% of the people have
knowledge about only the routes they use.

10. Is there any accurate information available to you about the arrival timings of buses?
This question is to analyze the current route timings awareness to the people. Respondents
respond to this question with 17% saying yes and 52.8% saying no and rest of the 30.3%
respondents stating as Maybe.

11. Do you think there are feeder routes available near metro/orange line stations?
According to collected data from respondents it is stated that almost 48.3% of respondents
don’t have any idea if there are any feeder routes available near their residents. Only 32.3%
people responded with Yes and rest 19.5% people responded with No.

12. Do you feel safe while travelling on public transportation?


Collection of data is mainly done with a purpose to collect it from only females and
specifically from those who travel on daily basis for educational and work purposes. To know
female perception for public transportation as they travel on daily basis. The current data
collection states that out of 400 females 192 females don’t feel safe while traveling on public
transport and rest 208 females feel safe while traveling.

13. Do you prefer to travel alone on public transport?
To have the idea of the current situation of our public transport, this question can be very
important which states if females feel safe to travel on it alone. On which only 33.5% women
responded with Yes and rest 66.5% responded with No.

14. At what time do you mostly use the public transportation?


According to data collection, the respondents have been asked about the time of the day when
they mostly use the public transportation. From which 44.5% responded with Morning,
22.8% responded with Afternoon and rest responded with different times of the day when
they travel respectively.

In this question preference to use public transportation is focused on which only 17.3%
females have agreed to use the public transportation at evening or night rest 82.3% females

15.1. If no, why?

16. Have you ever faced any harassment issue while travelling at public transport?
The most important part of analysis is to take opinions of respondents who have faced any
sort of harassment while travelling or will think have to go through harassment in order to
travel on public transportation. According to current data only 21.5% people have responded
with Yes and rest 78.5% has responded with No.

17. On what scale would you rate the lightening conditions of bus stops?
This Question is to analyze the current situation according to the respondents who travel all
along the different parts of the city. From which only 17.5% said it is very bad and only
56.5% said it is fair and rest as following.

18. Which mode of transportation is comfortable or suitable to your destination?


This question is to analyze which public transportation has been most common among the
public. According to data collection it is stated that almost 40.3 % of respondents are
comfortable to use orange line/Metro and about 38.8% are comfortable in using Speedo Bus.
Rest of the 21% don’t prefer to use anything at all.

19. Do you prefer informal public transportation (Uber, Careem, Airflift, SWVL etc) over
formal public transportation in terms of ease and comfort?
As per current analysis from the recent data and interview, it can be said that respondents
prefer Informal public transportation over formal public transportation due to multiple
reasons that will be discussed in detail in further. However, almost 77.3% respondents stated
their answers as yes and rest stated it as no.

19.1. If yes, why?


Respondents stated multiple reasons why they prefer informal public transport over
formal public transport some of the reasons are tracking of application and less journey
time. As mentioned already that tracking of the application has made the usage of
informal public transportation very easy as the user knows exactly where the bus is and
when it will be arrived on their desired stop. It also mentions the ETA which is the
Estimated Time Arrival. Usage of application has helped a lot in respect with female
gender as they only reach to their stops when the bus is about to arrive which has given a
sense of secured environment to the females. Another main reason is the less travel time
which makes it effortless for respondents. From the data collection it has already been
seen that out of 100% almost 77.3% of respondents prefer using public transportation and
from those 77.3% respondents have multiple reasons why to prefer informal public
transport.

20. Do you prefer to wait at bus stops?


Keeping in view the current environment this question has been asked to analyze the
preference of respondents whether they prefer to wait at bus stops as multiple people have
given their opinions on it. It can be seen clearly that almost 81.5% of respondents don’t want
to wait at the bus stops due to multiple reasons that will be discussed below. And rest 18.5%
people are okay to wait at bus stops.

20.1. If no, why?
According to data collection out of 81.5% respondents, 20.8% respondents don’t prefer to
wait at bus stops as there are no clean surfaces to sit or stand, pits of garbage and trash
and multiple unwanted obstacles. Around 16.3% respondents marked that there is
inadequate or no lighting on the bus stops due to which they don’t feel comfortable while
standing or sitting on bus stops. Rest of the people stated multiple different reasons that
will be listed below:

21. Do you observe any security cameras installed at bus stops?


Installing cameras at bus stops provide the general public with a sense of security.
Specifically for women who wait at bus stops, people with wrong intentions become more
vigilant and this way the crime rate also lessens. Following are the results from the data
collection that states almost 67.5% respondents feel that there are no cameras on bus stop rest
32.5% respondents observe that there are cameras installed at bus stops.

22. Do you know about the safety apps like Safe city apps, or have you ever used them?
Apps that are specifically made for women safety like Safe city app used for tracking women
location. It’s a great initiative towards the development for public transportation but many of
the people still are unaware of apps like these. Out of 100 only 36.3% respondents knew
about the safe city application and rest were unaware.

24. Is there any monitoring or surveillance system available at bus stops?
This question is to analyze if there are no installations of camera on bus stops, is there any
way for check in balances of all the situations. As surveillance systems helps in investigating
any sort of incidents on bust stops or area near to it. According to data collection almost
24.3% people observed that there is surveillance systems at the bus stops and 75.8% observe
that there is no surveillance systems at bus stops.

25. Does access to public transportation affects your commuting pattern?


Your commuting pattern can be affected by the access of public transport. As sometimes
when there is no access of public transport people change their journeys and point of pickup
and destination. So, in order to get to know people perception that how many times this fact
has affected their journey or will be affecting will see how many respondents have respond
with Yes and how many respondents have respond with No answer.

26. “Availability of public transportation routes increases independence to travel” how far do
you agree with this statement?
Variety of routes can make a person travel independent. As some points do not have any
route which make women dependent on some male representative This can help in so many
aspects as there will be routes to almost all areas within the city that will help females as well
to travel independently on public transportation. Almost 44% respondents agree with the
statement and 30% strongly agree to it. Rest will be mentioned below:

27. Information of routes and accurate arrival timings will enhance the use of public
transportation?
Women face multiple constraints on public transportation. Among all the reasons these were
also considered as hinderance between the usage of public transport and women. So just to
get the user perception we tried to get responses regarding the following question which
states that almost 55% of respondent agrees and rest 38% respondents strongly agree to it.
