In response to your request for a summary of state laws regarding pharmacy/pharmacist requirements of remote order verification, the
following information is provided.

Response:
The American Society of System-Health Pharmacists (ASHP) provides guidelines for the implementation and utilization of remote medication
order processing.1 In general, the institutional facility and the remote site should consider state regulations in order to maintain specific
requirements. If the institutional facility and remote site are located in different states, then both state regulations should be considered.
Additional considerations may include but are not limited to approval of the remote site by the client’s state board of pharmacy, policies and
procedures for the remote medication order processing service, copies of licensure required by the state, and copies of any job specific
requirements related to pharmacy personnel. Specific criteria for remote order verification in- or out-of-state with Trinity Health locations are
listed below in Table 1.
