Document Conventions
The command conventions that may be found in this document are defined as follows.
Convention Description
Buttons, menus, parameters, tabs, window, and dialog titles are in boldface.
Boldface
For example, click OK.
Multi-level menus are in boldface and separated by the ">" signs. For
>
example, choose File >Create >Folder.
Italic Documents links are in italics. For example, see User Guide for details.
Command arguments you may type in the blank. For example, input
Courier New
http://host_name/virtual directory in the address.

Update History
Updates between document issues are cumulative. Therefore, the latest document issue contains
all updates made in previous issues.

Introduction
This document contains instructions and steps for upgrading PecStar iEMS V3.6 to the latest
version.
The following steps are only compatible with upgrading between versions 3.6. To upgrade to
PecStar 3.6 from earlier versions, such as PecStar 3.2 or 3.5, please contact the local CET
engineers for details.

Before You Begin

Completing the instructions in this document requires that you perform certain tasks correctly.
These tasks are described below.
 Ensures that you have a valid license, using the existent authorization or asking for new
ones are all available.
 Ensures that your computer meets the operating system and Database Server requirements.
For more information, see Supported operating systems and Database Server in PecStar
iEMS V3.6 Installation Guide.
 Verifies that a PecStar iEMS V3.6 is already installed and functions well.
 Verifies the connection to the Database Server.
 Verifies that the SQL Server Authentication is chosen and the administrator (sa for SQL
Server and postgre for PostgreSQL Server) account permissions is defined.
 Gets the latest version of PecStar iEMS V3.6 from CET Technology Engineers.
 Ensures that no other programs are running. Save your work and close any open
applications of PecStar.

Note
During the upgrades, the remaining time of the dongle wouldn’t be affected if you upgrade
PecStar with the existent dongle of previous version on the computer.

Upgrading PecStar iEMS V3.6 to the Latest Version

Start the installation process by inserting the PecStar disk into the drive. If it does not open
automatically, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the drive and double-click setup.exe.
1. Run the setup.exe program and the Welcome page appears as follows, click Next to proceed
to the Verifying Environment page.

The installer will check if lower version PecStar software has been installed.

Note
If the installation fails to connect database, then please check and ensure that the SQL Server
Services or PostgreSQL Server Service start running as follows. Then restart the upgrade process.

2. Click Next to upgrade the following environment components, or proceed to the Version
confirmed page if all components have been installed.
 Windows Installer 4.5
 .Net Framework 4.0
 Visual C++ 2010 Run-Time Library
 Flash Player 11
 The program will automatically install the missing ones.

3. Verify the upgrading information, and click Next to proceed to the Starting upgrade process
page.

4. Click Install to start PecStar upgrading.

5. PecStar will display some features during upgrading.

6. Wait until the updating completes and click Finish.
