Week 2 CPT Coding Job Aid Homework Assignment

This Assignment is part of the Quizzes & Homework category, worth 15% of your
grade.
Deadline
Due by the end of Week 2 at 11:59 pm, ET.

Directions
Imagine that you work as a coder at University Hospital. Your coding manager asks
you to create a job aid to help all new coders learn how to navigate the CPT code book
and code procedures accurately using the CPT code book. Specifically, your coding
manager requests that this job aid allows new coders to use this job aid as a guide to
CPT coding and the CPT code book. With this job aid, the coders will be able to
reference the CPT format and symbols.

Follow the steps below to complete this Assignment:

1. Access the University Hospital CPT Coding Job Aid Template, found below
these directions.
2. Using your CPT code book and information learned from your lectures, fill in the
University Hospital CPT Coding Job Aid Template with the following:
a. Identify and explain the two parts of the CPT code book.
b. Describe the six sections and provide code range for each section of the
CPT Coding System (Numeric Section). List a CPT code from each
section.
c. Identify the CPT symbols used, what Appendix the symbol and codes can
be located, the description (their meaning), and an example of a CPT code
where the symbol is used.
3. Refer to the rubric at the end of this document. Check your work against the
rubric to make sure that you have done everything you've been asked to do.
4. Submit your work to your instructor by the designated deadline.
