WELCOME MESSAGE

Dear Colleagues:

It is my great pleasure to invite and welcome you to the 10th Congress of


Asian Society of Transplantation which will be held during 1-4 December,
2007 at the Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Hall ( PEACH ) in Pattaya,
Thailand.

THE 10th CONGRESS OF ASIAN SOCIETY OF TRANSPLANTATION


The theme of this congress is “Excellent Transplantation” which will high-
light the most update and advance progress in the field of organ trans-
plantation and also some distinct and special aspects in this region of Asia.
The Scientific Committee has been working hard in preparing the most
excellent program including all varieties of academic activities for all
organ transplantation.

There will be a pre-congress postgraduate educational course including basic science and clinical
transplantation sessions, an one day symposium on organ donation and allocation for transplant
coordinator, state of the art, keynote and plenty of plenary lectures, symposia and free communica-
tion. Many worldwide renowned transplant experts have been invited and accepted to participate in
this congress. We wish that all doctors and personnel working in the field of organ transplantation
could come to update their knowledge, share their experiences and refresh their friendship among
colleagues.

Aside from the main scientific and academic atmosphere, the organizing committee will put all our
best effort to provide warm hospitality activities, together with the exposure of the charm of the most
famous seaside resort of Thailand. We wish to capture your heart and make your stay during the
congress one of the best memorable events.

Language
The Congress activities will be in English and there is no translation service. Normally in Bangkok and Pattaya,
English is widely understood.
Invitation letter
Upon request, the Conference Secretariat will be happy to issue a letter of official invitation to attend the confer-
ence. However, such solicited invitation will not offer payment of any expenses.
Passport and Visa
Entry into Thailand requires a passport valid for at least six months from the time of entry. If your passport will
expire while you are in Thailand, please obtain a new one before arrival. The Thai government allows people of 57
different nationalities, including most European countries, Australia, New Zealand and the USA, to enter the coun-
try for tourism purposes without a visa for 30 days. Citizens of Brazil Korea and Peru may enter Thailand without
a visa, in accordance with inter-governmental agreements, for a maximum stay of 90 days for purposes of tourism
or temporary business only. The Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs enumerates its visa policies at its website
www.mfa.go.th/web/12.php.
Official carrier
THAI Airways International has been appointed as the official carrier for this Congress. Please contact your nearest
Thai International office for your travel reservations. There will be a special offer for all delegates who come to this
congress from Thai Airway International.
Climate
Thailand is in a tropical zone, the average temperature is 20-32 Degree Celsius. In December the climate is gener-
ally pleasant.
Airport information Suwanabhum International Airport is located 25 kms. from the city Center. There are
two International Arrival Terminals, Numbers 1 and 2. The domestic terminal is located about 1 km. from the
International Terminals.
Program change
The organizer cannot assume liability for any changes in the program due to external or unforeseen circumstances.
Exhibition
The excellent facilities for companies to exhibit their latest technology, equipment, pharmaceuticals services and
medical literature in the field of transplantation will be available to exhibitors. Contact Congress Secretariat for
further information.
Official bank
The Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited has been appointed as the official bank of the Congress.
Currency
The Thai currency is Baht which is divided into 100 satangs. Coins are in 25 and 50 satangs, 1, 5 and 10 Bahts.
Foreign currency may be exchanged at authorized exchanged bank, hotels and shops.
Traveller’s cheques and credit card
Major credit cards, such as VISA and Master Card are acceptable in Hotels and shops. Traveller’s cheques can be
conveniently cashed at all commercial banks and authorized money exchanges.
Electricity
Voltage in Thailand is 220 V AC. However, electric razor outlets, generally with multi-voltage fittings, are avail-
able in most hotels.
Time
Thailand time is GMT plus 7 hours.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

Dear Colleagues:

It is with great pleasure for me to extend you a cordial invitation to attend


the 10th Congress of Asian Society of Transplantation (CAST) in Pattaya,
Thailand on December 1st-4th 2007.

THE 10th CONGRESS OF ASIAN SOCIETY OF TRANSPLANTATION


The scientific committees have been working very hard to organize the
programme contents. This congress aims to provide update information and
evidences to all sectors of the transplant community. These include Trans-
plant surgeon, Transplant physician, Nephrologist, Urologist, Gastroenter-
ologist, Hepatologist, Hematologist, Immunologist, Pathologist, Scientist,
HLA typist, Transplant coordinators, social workers and all working indi-
viduals in the field of transplantation.

I would like to express my deep appreciation to all distinguished invited speakers who have accepted
our invitation. The programme will include a pre-congress postgraduate educational course focus on
“Essences Basic and Clinical Science in Transplantation”. This course will be held on December 1st
2007. The main scientific programme will be held on December 2nd - 4th 2007. The theme of this
main programme is “Excellent Transplantation”.

It is a good opportunity that more than twenty- six key opinion leaders from North America, Europe
and Australia have accepted our invitation to talk at this congress. This enables us to organize several
important keynote lectures, plenary sessions, interesting symposiums and state of the art lectures. In
addition, several Asian key opinion leaders will participate in the symposium to reflect the Asian
perspective of knowledge in both the basic and clinical science in transplantation. The varieties of
highlight topics are shown in the tentative scientific program.

On December 4th 2007, there will be a “One day advance course on organ donation and donor man-
agement”. All delegates who have registered to the main progamme have the right to attend the main
programme and / or attend this whole day symposium on December 4th with no additional expense.

I do hope that the scientific merit of this congress will be a good invitation for you to come to Pattaya
for the CAST 2007 meeting. I look forward to welcoming you all on December 1st -4th 2007.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION GUIDELINE


The 10th CAST Scientific Committee invites authors to submit abstracts to be considered for inclusion in the programme. Authors are
invited to follow the guidelines for abstract preparation hereafter indicated. Abstracts not conforming to the guidelines will not be
considered for reviewing. Abstracts will be peer reviewed. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts and repro-
duced on a CD-Rom that will be distributed at the congress.
In addition, all authors of accepted oral and poster abstract are encouraged to submit a manuscript for consideration of publication in
a special issue of Transplantation Proceedings, which is an official publication of the Asian Society of Transplantation.

Abstracts will be selected for oral or poster presentation, the author’s preference will be considered. The presenting author must
register for the Congress by September 15th 2007. If the presenting author does not register by September 15th 2007 the abstract will not
be included neither in the Final Programme nor in the Book of Abstracts. Please note that the date of early registration is before
September 15th, 2007.

Deadline for abstract submission: July 31st 2007
Notification of accepted abstracts: September 10th 2007
Guidelines
Only previously unpublished original work will be considered. Abstract report the investigation and results of completed research.
How to submit an abstract
1. Abstracts deadline submission is July 31st 2007. Abstracts received after this deadline will not be accepted.
2. Abstracts can only be submitted electronically by completing the online abstract submission process
3. Abstracts sent by post will not be accepted.

Guidelines for abstract submission
1. Abstract must be structured as follows:
Title and Authors:
The title should clearly indicate the nature of the study. CAPITALIZE ENTIRE TITLE. State all authors’ initials and last names
followed by their institutional affiliations, city, and state. Underline presenting author only.
Body:
Organize the body of the abstract into four distinct sections:
a) OBJECTIVE: State the problem to be discussed. It is the author’s own responsibility to have a document from their own IRB
/EC for each study.
b) METHODS: Briefly describe the material and study design in which the study or problem was investigated.
c) RESULTS: Briefly describe important findings.
d) CONCLUSION: State conclusion or solutions to problems. If possible, evaluate the relevance of this study to other persons
involved in the transplant community.
Abbreviations:
Abbreviations should confirm to the Style Manual for Biological Journals. Place nonstandard abbreviations in parentheses after the full
word the first time it appears. Do not use abbreviation in the abstract title.
2. Abstract typing instructions:
❖ Type abstract in Microsoft Word.
❖ The print size will be 12 point.
❖ The abstract should not exceed 2000 characters (letters) corresponding to about 300 words.
❖ Simple graphs and tables may be included if they fit within the margin.
3. Each abstract submission must be related to one of the 10th CAST abstract categories. The submitter must select the most
appropriate categories for the abstract on the submission form.
