Level: Upper-Intermediate
Skills involved: Reading skill
Materials: Reading passages, vocabulary charts, worksheets
Aims:
- To build ss’ vocabulary for better reading skills;
- To make them use reading comprehension to enhance both reading and vocabulary
skills;
- To review key reading skills: surveying, skimming and scanning
- To develop students’ awareness of the importance of applying these skills in order to
read and answer questions more effectively, efficiently and to find specific
information quickly in a text;
- To boost their vocabulary range.
Outcomes:
- Students will have practiced how to scan to quickly locate key words and question
answers;
- Students will have learned new words.

Warm-up and reading activity (35-40 min)


1. To check ss’ well-being;
2. Mention the lesson objectives;
3. Start from introducing some words from the text ss may not be aware of by using
wordwall app;
4. Write the word on the desk (“Aphantasia”);
5. Ask ss to brainstorm about what comes to their mind when they hear this word;
6. Write down their ideas;
7. Give them instructions and worksheets; remind them they have 20 minutes to read
the text and answer the questions;
8. After they finish reading the text, start discussing the text and questions;
9. Conclude the lesson: what have been learned, etc.
