Love other's elder as your elder

lǎo wú lǎo yǐ jí rén zhī lǎo shì liǎng qiān duō nián qián sī

1 “ 老 吾 老 以 及 人 之 老”， 是 两 千 多 年 前的 思想家
mèng zǐ tí xiào jìng zhǎng bèi

孟 子提出来的。它的意思是，我们不但要孝敬自己的 长 辈，
yóu cǐ zūn jìng hé zhào gù suǒ jìng

而且应该由此出发，尊敬和照顾所有的老人。这种敬老
měi dé xiàn dài shè huì jì xù tí chàng yǔ fā yáng

爱老的美德，在现代社会应该继续提 倡 与发扬。

thousand years ago. It mean s that we should not only love and respect our elders, but also start from

3. As Mencius advocated, respecting and loving the old should not be limited to respecting one's

own parents. It should include care for every elderly person in the society. Illness and aging often

bring various inconveniences to the elderly. Therefore, they need more help and care. In this regard,

each of us is duty-bound. As the saying goes: "You don't laugh at a white-headed man. Everyone has a

sunset red." Everyone has a day of old age and frailty. When that day comes, don't you want others to

help you?
