It is an irrefutable thing more and more


people today are spending money on brand
name items and the multibillion dollar
organizations are making more and more
money every day because of advertisement. It
seems as if everywhere you go there is some
kind of advertisement present, whether if it’s
on the side of a bus on a billboard or on the
back of a milk carton. Promotion of items has
been occurring since the birth of bartering,
advertisement is an unavoidable thing
especially in today’s modern society. As
adults we can make decisions on our own to
not be manipulated by advertisement we
encounter today but what is the there to
regulate advertisement aimed to children in

The simple term such as get it is enough to
trigger in the mind of an unsuspected child to
want to “get it”. Regulations are currently set
that ban subliminal messages’ in commercials
but there is no penalty for doing so. Their
needs to be high restrictions set on advertising
and have higher repercussions for disobeying
those restrictions.

The major effect to advertisement to children


is health. Many companies may target a child
because of such and expendable wallets and
disregard the causes that may be brought
upon advertising such things to adolescents.
The most well known advertisement we see
on daily television are fast food commercials.
According to the United States Department of
Agriculture in one Saturday morning a child
on average will see 75 commercial that are
based on unhealthy food. Advertising is
causing the obesity rate in United States to
increase rapidly. Regulations must be set in
order to control advertisement if not it will
have a drastic effect on the health of our
children.

Children are targeted because of their


desirability, children represent three different
markets. In addition to the direct money that
children spend and the money they influence,
children also represent a third major market
and perhaps the most significant and that is
