In general, the West Coast is facing a rising rate of homelessness and
a lack of affordable housing.
2. What does SoLa Impact do and where?
“SoLa Impact is a real estate fund that invests in building and
rehabbing apartment buildings in historically overlooked and under-
invested neighborhoods. We also focus on making investments that
benefit the tenant and the broader community.”
3. How many units are currently under construction?
“We are currently building over 1,500 units that are in various stages
of construction.”
4. How much does it cost SoLa to construct one unit?
“Today we can build at $250,000 a door.”
5. How do they keep the prices so low?
They build extremely efficiently. The apartments are pre-built in a
factory off site and assembled at the construction site. All of the
framing waste fits into one standard size trashcan.
6. How many units do they plan to build?
They plan to build 3,000 - 4,000 units.
7. What is the goal of the Beehive?
“The goal is to educate thousands of young people in the broad set
of skills needed to be successful in the technology world.”
