Sie liebten sich beide

They loved each other, but neither wanted it to confess;
they looked at each other so angrily, and yet wanted to die love.
They parted from each other in the end and saw each other only

sometimes in their dreams;

they had been dead for such a long time and hardly know it

themselves.

Liebeszauber
Cupid sat perched on a rosebush and sang like a nightingale;
the wonderfully sweet tones flew throughout the green forest.
And as it sounded, there arose all around fragrance from a thousand
flowers, and all the treetops rustled softly, and softly moved the air.
The brooks were quiet, they but scarcely splashed from the heights,
the fawns stood as if in a dream and listened to the tone.
And bright and ever brighter poured the sun's shine down, about

blossoms, wood and gorge poured itself the golden red glow.
I though walked the path along and heard also the sound.
Ah! All that I have sung since that hour has been but its echo.
Der mond kommt still gegangen
The moon comes quietly up with its golden shine,
then falls in a lovely display the weary earth to sleep.
In the dream the treetops rock, the brooks rush gently;
a singing angel floats through the blue starry night.
And upon the breezes drift from many a faithful mind many

thousand thoughts of love over the sleepers.

And below in the valley, there twinkles the window of the loved

one's house; but I in the darkness gaze silently out into the world.

Die stille Lotosblume

The silent lotus flower rises from the blue lake,
the leaves shimmer and sparkle, its calyz is white as snow.
Then pours the moon from heaven all its golden shine, pours all its

beams in her womb into.

In the water about the flower circles a white swan
It sings so sweetly, so softly and gazes at the flower.
It sings so sweetly, so softly and would in the song pass away.
oh flower, white flower, can you understand the song?
Quand je fus au pavillon
When I was caught in the pavilion of my lady, most noble and

beautiful, I burnt myself in the flame of the candle as does the

butterfly.
I blushed crimson red inthe brightness of a spark, when I was

caught in the pavilion of my lady, most noble and beautiful.

If I had been a Merlin or had wings as strong, I would have

shielded myself from her who stung me with her dart when I was

caught in the pavilion.

Si mes vers avaient des ailes

My verses would flee, sweet and frail, to your garden so fair, if my

verses had the wings like a bird!

Like sparks they would fly to your laughing hearth, if my verses

had wings like the mind.

Pure and faithful, to your side, they would hasten night and day, if

my verses had wings like Cupid!

À Chloris
If it is true, Chloris, that you love me, and I understand that you

love me well, I do not believe that even kings could have a

happiness equal to mine.

How death would be unwelcome, if it were to exchange my

present state for the joy of heaven!

All that they say of ambrosia does not inspire my imagination like

the favor of your eyes.
