A Strange Night
One summer’s night, late in July, Julie Baker was at home, doing what she always did on a
Thursday night—watch her favorite TV show. However, this night was different to the
others—she had a certain feeling that something was not quite right. The dogs had been
barking all evening and weren’t lying in their usual place. Julie couldn’t put her finger on
what was bothering them and, knowing that they were acting out of character, made her
feel very uneasy. As the night went on, she began to feel more uncomfortable—as if
someone was watching her. However, she eventually persuaded herself that it was all in
her imagination and went to bed.
Sleep didn’t come easily to Julie that night, but she finally managed to drift off. She had
been sleeping just a mere hour when she was awoken, not by a noise, but a strange
feeling. She felt paralyzed with fear: “Is there someone beside me on the bed?” She
thought to herself. She could see creases on the other side of the bed, but there was
nobody there! Initially, she thought her husband had come home early from his business
trip, but on closer inspection, there was still no one there. Not knowing what else to do,
Julie took the dogs and ran out of the house as fast as she could.
Returning home the following morning, Julie felt nervous as she approached the front
door. Suddenly, the door creaked slowly open and the dogs started to growl. Leaving them
outside, Julie tiptoed into the hallway, making sure not to make a sound. All of a sudden
the door swung shut and a little girl appeared, beckoning Julie to come closer. Julie
couldn’t believe her eyes. As Julie reached out to touch the girl, she vanished. Julie

shuddered in shock and ran back towards the door, but it was locked. She tried the
windows, but they wouldn’t open either. From that day forth, nobody saw or heard from
Julie again. Although, occasionally, walking by the house, you can see the faint outline of a
woman and small child through the windowpane.
