Young people often copy the behaviour of famous people, so celebrities

should only be allowed to advertise healthy food or drink and should not
encourage unhealthy habits such as smoking. Do you agree or disagree

The power of the mass media is unquestionable, and what famous

celebrities do and say is often emulated by many people, especially the
young who often look up to their idols. Because of this, many people
advocate that there should be limitations on what celebrities can advertise,
or on how they behave. In my position, this seems a little unreasonable.

It is undeniable that celebrities have a lot of influence. Brands pay them

large amounts of money to endorse their products knowing this will
increase their sales. These firms know that young people particularly want
to be the same as their idols. However, not all of these businesses offer
good and healthy products. Thus, famous people also sometimes promote
less desirable behaviour. We need good role models for young people to
follow then celebrities must acknowledge that their endorsement of those
goods has a strong effect on them. Therefore, the famous need to be
aware of their role in society and make good choices when signing a
contract.

Nevertheless, the recommendation to restrict celebrities’ behaviors in some

way may go too far. While they should behave responsibly when in the
public eye, they should also be allowed to make their own decisions. If we
believe that young people will always emulate others, even when they are
wrong, that indicates a different concern: the need for young people to
learn how to think by themselves. Thus, rather than forcing celebrities to
change their lifestyle, we should teach the young to take responsibility for
their life choices

In conclusion, I can only partly agree with this view. Although celebrities
should not encourage unhealthy behavior, I believe they have the right to
choose how they spend their time. It is far more crucial to guide young
people to have critical thinking than to limit the freedom of others.
