Turbine Nozzles

3D printed fuel nozzles are growing in production because of new 3D printing abilities.
They are used in both the energy and aerospace sectors of engineering. In a jet engine,
the fuel nozzle has a complex role. It allows for optimum mixtures of air and fuel. It
supplies hidden channels and structures that are not easily fabricated by machine tools.
Machine tools are able to make versions of the fuel nozzle, but the additive
manufacturing process developed a design that no other process can duplicate.

This item resonated with me since it is such a small part that has a gigantic relevance in
the success of an aircraft. I also read that additive manufacturing created a new ceiling
in terms of capabilities a fuel nozzle can perform in the coming future. It is always
interesting to see how a new technology can expand the threshold of possible
knowledge of engineers everywhere.

These turbine nozzles are made from ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) by the
process of Electron Beam Melting.
