April Peer Lesson,

Jade and I worked with each other for our peer lesson. This is always beneficial, fun, and

I think we enjoy working with each other. This was a quick lesson, but very informative. Jade

started with Handel’s “Cengio d’aspietta”, which was gorgeous! She had great energy, and soft

delicate and appropriate diction. Her vibrato fit perfectly with the piece and the period to which

It was written, and had amazing melismatic runs. There was good dynamic contrast as well; the

only thing I would say about her run of the piece was that the B section was slightly less con-

vincing, or maybe just less energized. I encouraged her to think how she would make the B sec-

tion stand out more.

For her, I sang V. Williams’ “In Dreams”. She said I had good diction, and liked how I

was trying to use it vocally to tell a story. My breath and phrases were supported and active, and

I had a good sense of where I was going musically. Her favorite thing overall was my color

changes. Some things I could think about are how I start quieter dynamics, and continuing faster

motion of air. She also suggested to find the most comfortable part of my voice, remember that

feeling, and carry it into more sensitive parts of the voice.
