Subject Area: Creative Non-Fiction

Content: FORMS AND TYPES OF CREATIVE NONFICTION

Content Standard: The learners understand the distinction between and among creative nonfiction types
and forms.

Performance Standard: The learners competently deliver artistic presentation summarizing and analyzing
the form, theme and techniques of a chosen creative nonfiction text

Learning Competencies: (HUMSS_CNF11/12-lia-16) Compare and contrast the different forms and types
of creative nonfictional text.

Learning Objectives: At the end of the class period, the Grade 12 students will be able to;
a.) Identify the various forms and types of creative nonfiction;
b.) Compare and contrast the types and forms of creative nonfiction; and
c.) Appreciate the importance of the types and forms of creative nonfiction.

Time Duration: 60 minutes (One Class Period)

Materials: Chalk, Chalkboard, Television.

Pre-Activity
 Start the class with a prayer.
 Ask the students to arrange their chairs properly.
 Checks attendance
 Ask the students how they feel today.

Activity

 Quick Review on the Elements, Techniques, and Devices of Creative Nonfiction


The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. What are the different elements of Creative Non-fiction?


2. As a novice writer, are the elements, techniques, and devices of Creative Non-fiction
important? Why?

 Exploratory Activity
DOMINANT IMPRESSION
Look around you, what have you observed? Can you tell something that will spark your interest?
Look at the sky, building, and people. Describe what you had observed to your classmate/buddy using your
sensory imaginations (visual, tactile, gustatory, olfactory, and audio).

Analysis

The teacher will ask the class the following questions based on the exploratory
activity:
 What was the activity about?
 How do you feel about the activity?
 What have you discovered during the activity?

 The teacher will then present the topic of the day through a Mini-Lecture (taken from
Creative Non-Fiction Module 3, page 5-7)

Abstraction
The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What are the different types and forms of Creative nonfiction?
2. Define: Autobiography, Biography, Journal, Diary, Letter, Memoir, Literary Journalism or
Reportage, Reflection Essay, Testimonio Essay, and Travelogue.
3. Why is understanding the different types and forms of Creative Non-Fiction important?

Application
(Group Work)
Directions: The class will be divided into 10 groups. Each group will be assigned one (1) type of
creative nonfiction. Give at least 3 importance of the assigned type and share it in front of the class.

Assessment

Directions: Choose two from the ten types and forms of Creative Nonfiction and identify their
similarities and differences using the Venn diagram.

Assignment

Directions: Answer the following questions and write it in a ½ sheet of yellow paper.
1. What is your name?
2. What is your name’s history?
3. What is your most unforgettable childhood memory?
