Assessment Strategies and Data Collection

MU.68.S.3.2 Demonstrate proper vocal or instrumental technique

This standard will be assessed through students playing the proper pitches, rhythms, and
articulations in measures 61-76 of Baywood March. In the pre and post tests, students will be
able to receive two points per measure in 3 categories: pitches, rhythm, and style. 2 points
equates to it being done correctly, 1 point is if there was one error, and 0 points will be given if it
is not correct. The maximum amount of points is 96. The rubric is attached below.

MU.68.C.2.1 Critique personal performance, experiment with a variety of solutions, and make
appropriate adjustments with guidance from teachers and peers
This standard will be assessed through formative assessments throughout the rehearsals during
the unit. Students will be consistently asked to identify where they made a mistake, and what
they need to do to fix it. In lesson 6, students will be asked to record themselves and to
immediately listen back to assess their performance. Students will receive 10 points out of 10 if
they are correctly able to identify at least one area in which they can improve.

MU.68.O.3.2 Perform the expressive elements of a musical work indicated by the musical score
and/or conductor, and transfer new knowledge and experiences to other musical works.
This standard will be assessed based on if students perform in the correct style on the pre and
post test and if they improve this style throughout the unit of study. The unit is focused on
measures 61-76, but measures 44-60 are very similar, so if students are able to perform measures
44-60 with 90% accuracy, they will receive 10 out of 10 points for this standard.
